Coral & Mint Groenrivier Wedding by CB Memories Photography {Vanessa & Andre}

I clearly remember the first time that coral and mint entered my colour vocabulary, because not only did I love the cool combo, but every time I used the colours in an inspiration board, I’d get dozens of likes and shares. It’s definitely a happy-making mix, and yet I haven’t seen too many brides and grooms actually using it for their weddings, which allows it to still be fresh and surprising for your guests. Winner winner, chicken dinner. So of course when I came across Vanessa and Andre’s coral and mint wedding, photographed by Chenel of CB Memories Photography, I just had to share it with you all! I loved how V + A used a monochrome background with just soft pops of the statement colours to liven it up, which makes for a very classic but not too formal wintery look.

Love Story
A mutual friend set us up. She always said she knew a great guy who she wanted to introduce me to. I wasn’t too keen, but little did I know that she gave Andre my number! He hung on to it for a while and then contacted me. We started chatting and later went on our first date – and we’ve been together ever since.

The Proposal
Andre planned a very romantic picnic for us at Boschendal where he popped the big question. The setting was beautiful, all the effort and details that he put in were so special – he made me the happiest girl in the world.

Wedding Style
Our vision was to have an elegant and stylish, but yet relaxed wedding – one which we, as well as our guests could fully enjoy. For the flowers and table decor mostly white was used, but a pop of colour was introduced with the mint-coloured stationery and the coral scarves that the ladies received as gifts.

The Venue
We went to have a look at Groenrivier and fell in love with it. The rustic atmosphere of the ceremony area was what we were looking for and the reception area was a blank canvas and already so beautiful – it doesn’t really need much decor. We immediately knew that we had found our venue. Even though it was about 90km from Cape Town, many guests took the opportunity to make a weekend of it and booked into one of the many guesthouses in Riebeeck Wes and Riebeeck Kasteel.

The Flowers
Our wedding flowers were simple and elegant. On each table there was an arrangement in the centre on a stand which created some height, with smaller arrangements as well as candles beside it. I didn’t have a pre-set idea on my flowers. As one is slightly more restricted with which flowers you can get in winter, I gave the florist the freedom to do what she could with what she could get – she’s the professional, after all! And did a great job! I especially loved the tulips!

The Dress
I didn’t really know what style I wanted so I went to Bride & Co with my mom to have a look and try on some dresses. The fourth one I tried on was perfect and my mom started crying so I knew it was pretty special! I was still hesitant to commit and I had another dress fitting scheduled at another shop. Two days later, at the other shop, I tried on more beautiful dresses but nothing really spoke to me and I kept thinking about the dress at Bride & Co. We went back later that afternoon and I tried on the dress again. I immediately knew it was my dress and this time my mom and I were in tears!! It fit like a glove as if it was made for me. I didn’t need any convincing, this was my dress!! It was an Oleg Cassini A-line dress, one-shoulder with a tulle skirt with some beading at the bottom front and back of the train.

Memorable Moments
There were two moments that were pretty special for me. The first was during our ceremony – I took a moment just to look at Andre and was just so filled with love for him and excitement for our future.(I was so happy to see that Chenel managed to capture that moment!) The second was our first dance – it was to John Legend’s “All of me”. While we were dancing, Andre was singing the lyrics to me – it was a very special and intimate moment.

Fun & games
Instead of a garter toss the guys had to play musical chairs for the garter. The master of ceremonies also played the shoe game with Andre and I, where we had to answer questions on ourselves and our partner – it made for great fun and entertainment.

The Honeymoon
We went away to Langebaan and the West Coast for a couple days to relax. We couldn’t go on a big honeymoon due to work and other commitments but we are planning to go to Italy and Greece in the near future. :-)

Advice for Future Brides & Grooms
Don’t sweat the small stuff! And if anything is not “perfect” on the big day – just take it in your stride and forget about it! You’re probably the only one that noticed!
