From Catwalk to Aisle: 10 Key Wedding Dress Trends for 2015

Hello lovely readers – Candice here! With all the top designers hitting the runway late last year at New York Bridal Week showing off a variety of new trends, we really have been spoilt for choice. If you’re like me, you get a bit overwhelmed by all the magnificent options. So we’ve picked our top ten, stand-out runway and bridal fashion trends for 2015 – see which style you most identify with and how these trends can be interpreted into your dream wedding dress.

1. Low backs
Elegant and a great way to show a bit of skin in a subtly sexy manner, a low back is always a win. (Especially seeing as most of your guests will view you from this angle, particularly during the ceremony!)

2. Fringing
We love a bit of movement on a dress, and beaded fringing is at the top of our list! For the brides-to-be who are planning a serious dancing session at their wedding reception, how awesome would a bit of fringing look while you are shimmying down on the dance floor!? Loving how Rosa Clara & Theia interpreted this runway trend.

3. Blue Hues and Pastel Shades
Who says a wedding dress has to be white? Bring on the colour! Blues and muted pastel shades are still trending so why not make a statement on your wedding day? (If for no other reason than being a fan of Frozen!)

Dresses: Monique Lhuillier (top) | Alfred Angelo for Disney (bottom left) | Claire Pettibone (bottom right)

4. Intricate Metallic Detailing
Along with frosty blue and silver dresses, many collections featured beautiful metallic (especially silver and pewter) detailing and lace, including Claire Pettibone, whose collection was inspired by the leaded glass windows of Gothic cathedrals.

5. Capes
Add a bit of regal charm to your wedding day attire. A cape is impossibly glamorous, and we love the drama that it adds to a classic dress. (Also a perfect cover up for a winter wedding.)

6. Off the Shoulder
Off-the-shoulder dresses might be 2015’s biggest trend, with heaps of designers including variations on this style in their collections, and (thank goodness!), this new off-the-shoulder is a long way from the ’90s version!

Dresses: Oscar de la Renta (top) | Inbal Dror (bottom left) | Dennis Basso (bottom right)

7. Lace Tattoos
One of the hottest bridal runway trends is nude lace and lace tattoos. I love this slightly more daring use of usually demure lace. It also shows off the intricate pattern beautifully, is super feminine… and a little sexy too!

8. Sultry & Sexy
If you’ve got it, flaunt it! Lingerie details are making their way into wedding dresses, and we like it. Beautiful boning and corsetry details are being highlighted on the outside of the dress for a change. Another trend we are noticing is plunging V-necklines and high side slits. Your poor groom won’t stand a chance!

9. Cool Tulle
Classic tulle is getting an edgy make-over, and it is awesome. No more poufy meringue dresses – these are filmy, ethereal and super flattering. Love how Vera Wang has updated this classic bridal trend and made the tulle skirt cool again.

Dresses: Lazaro (top) | Rivini (bottom left) | Alvina Valenta (bottom right)

10. Cutouts & Crops
Channel your inner Taylor Swift in stylish crops and cutouts – such a unique modern twist on classic bridalwear.
