SouthBound’s Best 2013: Bridesmaids

Yesterday we had a closer look at the gorgeous fashion choices of both our 2013 brides and grooms/groomsmen, but this morning we turn our sight to the bridesmaids. I think that dressing your ladies is a great way to bring a note of fashion and elegance to your wedding style, as well as reinforce or contrast with your colour scheme, so I love all the mismatching and innovation that’s going on with bridal party gowns right now. And of course our SBBs were no exception! SO hard to narrow this one down too, but here are the top picks from the year that was.

I absolutely LOVE the laid back but elegant and quintessentially South African style of Elmarie & Sakkie’s bridal party. Soft cotton dresses are perfect for a summer wedding, and I adore how they’ve been teamed with natural hair, wooden proteas and a sweet little belt making them extra flattering. This one got so many likes on Facebook when it was featured, it just had to be the top pick ;) See the whole wedding (photography by Lindy Truter).

How fun was this bridal party? Ruffles and lace and blush pink dresses, and a cute sunglasses shot for fun were Penny and Henry’s signature style. See the whole wedding (photography by Dreampix, dresses by YDE).

Gold and glittering, Alicia and Stefan’s bridal party were the epitome of glamour. I love the variation in the dresses, which also worked so perfectly with the bride’s own dress. LOVE. See the whole wedding (photography byAdene Photography, dresses from Forever New & YDE).

Hestelle & Niel’s wedding was just blush autumn perfection, and these soft rose bridesmaid dresses with sash detail were perfectly lovely. See the whole wedding (photography by Aglow Photography, dresses by Alana van Heerden).

Nicola and Andre made the bold decision to have an India/Bollywood themed wedding to celebrate where they got engaged, resulting in this colourful bridal party. How gorgeous are those saris? See the whole wedding (photography by Expressions Photography).

I’ll admit, I would have thought that an animal style print at an African-themed wedding would be too much. But just look how prettily it turned out at Jill and Mike’s wedding! See the whole wedding (photography by Vanilla Photography).

Lynsay and Graham’s picnic wedding was the epitome of boho garden prettiness, and so were her bridesmaids, a mix of ages and a perfect mix of dresses and styles. Just beautiful. See the whole wedding (photography by Charlene Schreuder).

Ice cream pastels make for the most gorgeous mismatched bridesmaid look, and they were never sweeter than at Bridget and Quinton’s wedding. See the whole wedding (photography by Abigail K., dresses by Bridesmaids.com).

Gosh Rienne and Johan’s wedding was beautiful – I think it might have been one of my favourite colour palettes of 2013. And that palette was perfectly expressed in their mix and match bridesmaid dresses. See the whole wedding (photography by Catherine Mac, dresses by Lela Rose).

Yesterday we featured bride Julia’s incredible wedding dress as one of our favourites of the year, but it was perfectly matched by the soft, dreamy blue bridesmaid dresses her girls wore. Both were made by the extremely talented bride! See the whole wedding (photography by Fiona Clair, dresses by Julia Ferrandi).

Of course, the dresses aren’t the end of the story. How about some gorgeous accessories?

Bracelets are a hot trend for 2014, but this group of stylish BMs (left) rocked them first on SBB. Sparkly statement necklaces (left) aren’t just for the bride! See the whole wedding (photography by Lauren Kriedemann); The long ribbons on these BM bouquets (right) in different pastels are the perfect finishing touch! See the whole wedding (photography by Wesley Poon).

Finally, even before the dressing up happens, some brides treat their girls to some gorgeous robes – they look awesome in photos, and make a really lovely gift for your girls.

I can’t tell you how much I love these nautical robes, custom made to match Jo and Corey’s wedding design. See the whole wedding (photography by Jani B.).

Above we saw bride Penny’s girls in their finery, but I also loved their stripey robes. See the whole wedding (photography by Dreampix, dresses by YDE).
