Simple Elegance Nature’s Valley Wedding by Jenni Elizabeth {Michele and John}

You know, it can be a challenge to find new words and new ways to describe the weddings we feature on SBB. I feel like I say “gorgeous” a lot these days. Well, I’m about to say it again, because today’s wedding is GORGEOUS. Absolutely, get-your-swoon-on, magazine-worthy gorgeous. Michele and John chose to go with a simple colour scheme of white, blush and gold, which was complemented throughout by the deep emerald of foliage from their hanging swags and table garlands, and spectacular floral ceremony arch. Everything about it fits together like the pieces of a beautiful couple, partly thanks to the absolutely breathtaking pictures by Jenni Elizabeth. We’ve been looking forward to featuring Jenni’s work for a while, and I hope you’ll be seeing many more of her lovely images on SBB in future. But for today, let’s sit back and breathe in the simple elegance of Michele & John’s Garden Route wedding, and the sheer romance.Read More

Inspiration Board: Glam Safari

Happy Monday, lovelies! It’s time for our weekly colour inspiration, and today we’re bringing you a board that would be perfect for a glam safari wedding, or one where the couple want to showcase their love of Africa. It started with the image top left for me – I just loved the idea of a gold zebra print paired with navy and elegant flowers like white orchids. For this look, you’ll want to stay subtle with the animal print details (although I’ve sneaked in some lion cakes and gold animal swizzle sticks (also a great idea for place settings), which allows the overall look to be sophisticated and not too themey. As an extra nod to safari style, I love the idea of leather luggage tag favours. Add in groomsmen and bridesmaids in smart navy, touches of glamorous gold including a cuff for the bride, and an ultra modern cake (not seen a navy one before – don’t you love it?), and you have the perfect combination for bushveld black tie.

Colours: Navy, gold, white

Top row (l-r): Invitation with zebra envelope {Blue Rose Photography/Simply by Tamara Nicole}; navy suit {Du Wayne Denton/House of Monatic}; navy cake {Cindy Gannon Photography/Georges Chakra}; gold animal swizzle sticks

Inspiration Board: Golden Leaves

Good lord, how is it Monday again already? And how is it NOVEMBER? There’s only one way to deal with my standard end-of-year panic that time has almost slipped by me today, and that’s with some wedding pretty. I must say, I am loving today’s combination. Partly because I’m a sucker for leaves and garlands, but also because I think that gold, kraft paper and mint make such a sweet mix I’m amazed I haven’t stumbled upon it before. Leaves make an elegant motif in this design, showing up everywhere from stationery to cake to shoes, and it’s a subtle but effective way of tying everything together. Add a mint suit for the groom, and I’m in style heaven.

Colours: Mint, kraft paper beige, gold

Top row (l-r): Wedding invitations {Minted}; leaf hair garland {Aya Jewellery}; dress {Shell de Mar}; cake {Alante Photography/Honey Crumb Cake Studio}

Row 3: Kraft chair sign {Hunter Photographic/Baci Designer}; mint suit; gold stripe straws {Thatch & Thistle Co.}; tablescape with candle {Amanda K Photography}

African Monochrome Styled Shoot by Maxeen Kim

You know, if I hadn’t actually given blood the other day and seen it for myself, I would swear sometimes that glitter flowed through my veins. Show me something sparkly, and I am SOLD. And one of the things I love best is gold glitter against a stark monochrome background. But what do I like even better than all that? A touch of home, of course. Which is why I absolutely adore this styled shoot from the very lovely Maxeen Kim, a South African based in London who not only takes beautiful piccies, but is all about inspiring budget-conscious brides, which makes this shoot not just beautiful but achievable too. Maxeen channeled her love for all things South African into a bridal look and table that has a clean black and white base with a glamorous, blingy sheen – perfect for the modern South African bride. I love the stunning model’s guinea fowl headpiece, the foiled stationery, as well as the sparkly runner, the beaded cattle, and of course, the beautiful chevron cake. This is a look I would love to see in a real wedding one day soon!Read More

Gold Foil Wedding Details

Afternoon, lovelies! As you know by now, I love nothing like I love a little sparkle, and recently I have been absolutely loving the little touches of gold foil that I’ve seen popping up in wedding design, especially those that have an imperfect textured look. So soft and pretty! I thought I would round up my favourites just for you – you’ll see how versatile this motif is, with everything from beauty ideas (including a stunning idea for short hair brides) to cakes and table decor details, and even an amazing Carolina Herrera dress with handpainted gold leaf detailing. Swoonage!Read More

Country Casual Wedding at The Glades by Summertown Pictures {Ash & Peter}

Some weddings just remind me of the simple, wonderful pleasure in life – a cool breeze on a hot day, a new sundress, melting butter on fresh, hot bread. Today’s wedding is like that – pure happiness and country casual chic. Ash and Peter chose a palette of soft neutrals with a touch of peach and a little glimmer of gold (I love how subtly this metallic is used throughout, it’s so perfect), with lovely lace showing up in both the bride and the bridesmaids’ stunning dresses. The florals are a beautiful mix – I especially love the blushing bride proteas. And speaking of these blooms, I just loved how they were used to decorate Ash’s naked cake, and would you believe it, she made it herself! Clever bride, beautiful wedding, happy days. Ooh, and let’s not forget the swooney images from Summertown Pictures too!Read More

Real Bridal Shower: Pastel & Gold High Tea

Time for a bit of bridal shower inspiration, and today’s feature comes to you from the very lovely Chantall Marshall Photography & Design. Who is pretty much the best girl to have on hand as your bridesmaid, considering that she’s not only a photographer, but a designer and lover of all things pretty! Chantall did an awesome job putting together this gorgeous kitchen tea in gold, teal and candy pink for her friend Friedel, including a super fun photobooth for the ladies to capture some memories while playing with props and getting to know one another. Loads of stealable ideas here – from gold sprayed succulents, bottles and tins to lemon meringue pie in a jar!Read More

West Coast Glamour by Memory Box Photography & Blank Canvas

We’re heading to the seaside with today’s team of finalists in the SBB styled shoot competition. This entry was a collaboration between vendors in Gauteng and the Cape (how cool is that?) and was inspired by the gorgeous wild West Coast, with lashings of glitter and sparkle including a gold dress that I basically want to live in. I’m so inspired by the South-African-beach-rustic-turned-glam details styled by Blank Canvas, and the dreamy photography by Memory Box. It’s sheer editorial loveliness.Read More

Eco Chic Botanical Wedding at Rosemary Hill by Van der Bijl Photography {Leigh & Byron}

When Brownwyn of Van der Bijl Photography sent over today’s gorgeous organic-lovely wedding, I had to go back and double check her email after the first few pics that this was a real wedding and not a styled shoot, since the florals and details are that perfectly styled. Of course, once I saw Leigh and Byron’s ceremony pics, the happy tears and the love between the couple (and on the faces of all their guests) there was no doubt this was as real a wedding as you’ll find, which of course makes me love every pretty botanical detail put together by Carol-Anne of Eco-chic Weddings even more. And eco-chic is the right word – everything right down to Leigh’s gorgeous frothy dress was created with an eye on upcycling and sustainability. It’s a beautiful day with a big heart, and I’m delighted to be sharing it with you all!Read More

Inspiration Board: Oracle

Morning lovelies! Time to greet another week, and there’s no better way to do that than with an inspiration board, right? If you’ve been following for any amount of time you’ll probably know by now that I just love olive leaves as wedding decoration. So today I thought I would pair this Mediterranean favourite with glamorous gold – perfect for a bride who wants to feel like a Grecian goddess on her big day. Which leads me to wonder – is there ANYTHING that doesn’t look amazing with gold right now? Because no, I don’t think there is. I especially love the idea of a bride in a soft grey or nude colour dress, and bridesmaids in shimmery glitz, paired with olive leaves and soft white flowers on the tables. Gorgeous.

Top row (l-r): Bride {Jose Villa}; table decor {Michael + Anna Costa Photography/Joy De Vivre Event Design Boutique}; gold dress {Feather & Stone}
