The Bright Lights of Joburg Engagement Shoot

I have a special bonus for y’all this afternoon! Fab Gauteng photographer Alana Meyer contacted me recently with this sweet engagement session shot in and around Johannesburg (just for a little change of scenery from the Cape). Lauren and Nick are big fans of their home city and wanted to communicate a bit of Jozi vibrancy in their pictures. They started at WITS University and landed up in the city centre. I think they turned out just gorgeous! Thanks to Nick, Lauren and Alana for sharing with us!

Alana also sent over some background from Lauren on how she and Nick got engaged…

Nick sent me an invitation to celebrate us moving in together. The invite said it would be a picnic at sunset overlooking Jo’burg city lights. I was a little suspicious but with it being a Wednesday night, I thought not a lot of it. So, in the pouring rain we drove up to the Observatory, which has an incredible view of Jo’burg (this was a place Nick and I had visited a year before and I had dreamt that this was the place Nick was to propose.) Well lo and behold, Nick was thinking the same thing!

So… there we were in the pouring rain, Nick and I out on the viewing deck holding tightly on to our umbrellas as the wind tried to turn them inside out leaving us to get cold and wet. At this point, we decided to rather go home for the picnic but before we left we wanted to explore the little library that was on this hill. So we ran around the building, and around the corner we found a little verandah which was sheltered from the wind and rain and we set up the picnic there.

Nick handed me the picnic basket to unpack while he poured the wine. The food he’d packed was fantastic, and I was getting excited with each tupperware of prawns, chicken, cheese and then right at the bottom next to the carrot tupperware was something that was certainly not edible, but it was a very distinct box shape. At that point my heart jumped out of my body and to get it under control I took out the carrots and looked to see a very inquisitive Nick peering at me. I pulled out the box, gave it to him, at which point he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him and I said YES with all my heart.
