Amalfi Blues Wedding Inspiration

Italy’s Amalfi Coast is one of my all-time favourite places on earth. Back in my mid-twenties I went there on what we dubbed the ‘blonde roadtrip’ – three blondes in a convertible, ten days, just driving the coast and stopping over where we liked. It was awesome (except, maybe, for the actual driving part). Because fun! But also because it’s seriously one of the most beautiful places you will ever get to visit, with amazing food, and lovely people, and and and. Heaven, basically. So when my friend, Anneli Marinovich, attended a photography workshop (Moda e Arte) there a while back, I was super envious! And now I’m missing Amalfi all over again, as I get to share these beautiful images that Anneli took at the workshop, which was styled by the insanely talented Joy Proctor. We see our couple through their wedding to their clifftop reception, and on to their stylish honeymoon – in a convertible of course! It’s the perfect ‘something blue’ to finish off the week, and fit into our theme this month! Thanks for sharing, Anneli!

Here’s some background from Joy on the two different shoots:
The Amalfi Coast of Italy is a true dream world, and the epitome of elegance and romance. The small town of Ravello sits atop the cliffs overlooking the coast, set amongst acres of lush terraced gardens, lemon orchards and historic architecture. When we began planning for the workshop I was overwhelmed with the sheer beauty that was the Amalfi coast, and in particular, the stunning Hotel Caruso, home of our workshop. Originally a palace built in the 11th century, the hotel is the definition of Italian luxury and provided the most inspirational palate on which I was able to design. I chose to use the history of the hotel as my muse, and designed an elegant old world look, set against the historic architecture of Ravello and ruins of the palace. To highlight the delicate juxtaposition of natural beauty and the true artisan talent reflected in architecture and art, I chose a color palate of light blue, cream, gold and ochre. Our beautiful model Denisa wore two exquisite gowns, which were perfectly paired with the delicate estate like jewellery by Anna Bellagio. The incredible calligraphy stationary by Carolyn Jane done in gold ink on handmade cotton paper, was yet another nod to the intricate artisan details so common throughout Italy. I chose the ruins of the old Roman baths as the backdrop for our dinner table, which I set with antique monogrammed silverware, detailed stoneware china and delicate etched glass champagne coupes.  Ornate gold candelabras and candlesticks from Classic Vintage Rentals lit the table just as the owners of the palace may have done centuries before. I placed taper candles into the alcoves surrounding the dinner table, and chose a beautiful gold cake stand for the cake which was also placed into an alcove.

What does a stylish couple do the day after the most picturesque wedding on the Amalfi Coast in Italy?  They head off in a vintage sports car to their honeymoon. Choosing from an amazing wardrobe of gowns, the bride picks a chic Lulu Kate dress and gets ready in her suite. The groom’s belongings are carefully laid out as he packs for the adventure with his new wife. The car is pulled around and the couple bid their guests “bon voyage” as they head off for their honeymoon in France.
