Downton Abbey Wedding Inspiration

What’s the expression: we plan and God laughs? Well, it’s been that kind of a day. The wedding I had for you had to be put on ice at the last minute, for one. But that is no worries, because it just means that I get to share this piece of loveliness with you all a bit sooner. I don’t know how many of you are Downton Abbey fans (and I can’t believe how behind SA is…) but I definitely am, and I’m totally amped for Series 3. And as much as I’m a Gatsby girl, I also love the alternative wedding style from the same era that Downton offers. While Gatsby is all about loud, wild, flapper style (even if you don’t go all out Baz Luhrmann), Downton is much more refined, more elegant, but just as opulent in its own way. So I was absolutely thrilled when South Africa’s own Nuptial Network got in touch with their latest styled shoot project, which was inspired by Lady Mary et al. And it is gorgeous – you vintage loving brides are going to ADORE it. But what I especially love is how many little touches could be incorporated into any kind of wedding – the subtle sweetness of an ombre cake, the pretty chair ties, the ceremony area (LOVE), the pretty styling of the bride and bridesmaids. The table draped in lace. With lace and silver and lasercut, and pretty pretty flowers, all you need is Carson to lead you in to dinner. Ready, my lords and ladies?

Real Bridal Shower: Downton Abbey

Good morning, friends! Did you enjoy our Sparkle & Blush fest yesterday? Today we’re back to real life inspiration courtesy of one of our real life brides, the lovely Candice. You’ll remember Candice was our Marie Antoinette bride, and so far we’ve followed her through her whole planning process right up to her Versailles-themed rehearsal dinner (loved that!). Today we’re getting a peek at another pre-wedding event, the bridal shower, and one of the most adorable themes I’ve yet seen! Candice is a huge fan of Downton Abbey (aren’t we all?) – in fact, in her first email to me she joked that she avoided the sun in an attempt to acquire skin as pale as Lady Mary’s – so it was the perfect theme for her bridesmaids to pick, and much fun (I feel I should be saying ‘japes’ here) ensued! There are so many lovely ideas here – and I love that the gifts were so personal and creative. All images are from Louis John van Rooyen of {Moment}ography.Read More

The Love List {17 June 2012}

Good morning, friends! Hope your weekend’s going as well as mine so far. I had an amazing day yesterday attending a flower workshop with William Clarke (champagne, chocolate brownies and peonies – how could a girl NOT love it? more about that soon) and then catching up with the Mr & Mrs behind one of my favourite blogs, b.loved. Now it’s time to catch up with a bit of chilltime on the couch getting posts prepared for this week, and get ready, because I have so much loveliness coming your way! But first, here’s the highlights of the week that was:

We started off with pretty pastel polka dot inspiration, with even more lovely pastels in Suzanne & Jasons’s wedding on Tuesday and in our watercolour wedding details roundup later in the week. We also took a trip to the country for the serene Fields of Gold e-shoot, and for a rustic Midlands wedding. Rounding out our real weddings, we had a black & white high tea, and talking of teas, we introduced you to the awesome Bella Chiara for your kitchen tea. Finally, on Friday, we met five fabulous brides, and then brushed up on our Wedlish by learning all the terms you need when thinking about veils. And if you’re all caught up on SBB, here’s what else I loved on the web this week…
