Urban Chic Engagement Shoot

Maybe it’s because I’ve lived all over the country (when people ask where I’m from in SA, I usually just say “pick a city”), but one of my favourite things about South Africa is the sheer variety. Just yesterday I was telling a cabbie about the sub-tropical Durban climate and how it’s all bananas and beach bums, and it still blows my mind that right next door there’s mountains and the little England of the midlands, not to mention the dust of the Karoo, or the Cape winelands, or, or, or… I could go on. It makes for a lot of variety on this blog, and as much as our natural assets blow me away, I’m always thrilled when a couple show off the city side of things as well. Jozi is soooo urban chic, and never more so than in this phenomenal shoot in Newtown/Melrose Arch by the very talented Wesley Vorster. Gayle and Lyle make fantastic models – congratulations to both of them on their engagement!Read More

Urban Chic Engagement

Some photographers and couples will really go above and beyond to get a great shot, and today’s session is quite an example! Ashley and Gren wanted something a bit different for their engagement shoot with the awesome Warren Williams, so they ventured into one of the dodgier parts of Cape Town for their photos. Despite a couple of worrying moments they fortunately emerged unscathed, and I just love the pictures they got as a result!Read More

Cape Town City Engagement Shoot

I love engagement (or wedding!) shoots that take in the sights, sounds and most of all the vibe of a city. The romance of Paris. The buzz of New York. The funkiness of London’s East End. It really captures the place that you live (or met, or just that you hold dear) and the city becomes like an extra character in the shoot. Needless to say, I heart Cape Town very much, so I was really excited to see this shoot from Toni and Desmond of Desmond Louw Photography (we featured their fun vintage-style engagement pics here). I love the enthusiasm these two have for their photography and for the couples they work with, and how they’re always trying to find new angles and locations. Here’s hoping this inspires lots more couples to get out there and engage with the Mother City for their pictures!Read More
