Today’s engagement session is just beyond cool! And so different. When photographer Mark Engelbrecht (a climber himself) found out Jorina and Stefan were keen mountaineers, the three of them hatched a plan for a truly unique photo shoot. Talk about tying the knot! And despite shooting with one hand while suspended from a rope, Mark got some beautiful images of this couple, absolutely in their element. I’m so excited to feature this here today!
Jorina and Stefan sent over some info on the proposal, and how they met:
We met on a street corner! More specifically, the corner of Station and Herold streets in Stellenbosch. We’d arranged to travel in the same car with a mutual friend to the Banff Film Festival at Tygervalley.
How he proposed… Stefan surprised me with a weekend away. We went to Yzerfontein, the very first place where we had been away together. He took me for a picnic on the beach, where we ate lovely crackers, cheese and strawberries. Every time we go on a road trip, we buy a Kinderjoy egg and then the toy inside is our trip mascot, so after we had finished eating, Stefan gave me an egg. When I opened it, the ring was inside with a note. I was completely taken aback as I hadn’t expected it! Stefan took the ring, went down on one knee and asked me to marry him. That wasn’t the end of the surprises for the weekend – when I opened my apartment door on Sunday night, I found a heart with flashing lights and the whole floor was covered with balloons, and everywhere in the most random places there were letters saying “I love you”, etc.
Adorableness! Here’s the shoot, and if you’d like to see some lovely pics from Jorina and Stefan’s wedding, check out Mark’s blog.
