Inspiration Board: Pumpkin & Lavender

Happy Monday friends! As part of our month of autumn awesome, over the next few weeks we’ll be focusing our colour inspiration on Pantone’s Fall 2015 palette (be sure to check in this afternoon, when we’ll be introducing all the colours and pairing them up with gorgeous bridesmaid dresses). Today we’re starting with a combination of mustardy yellow and bright violet shades – absolutely perfect for a warm but very pretty autumn wedding. Add touches of soft purple and pumpkin shell orange to round it out, and you have a beautiful seasonal look.

10 Autumn Wedding Colour Palettes

Weyhey! It’s a new week! Hope you all are back renewed and refreshed after your long weekend, and ready for a new month of inspiration here on SBB. I certainly know I am ready to start a fresh page, with a pretty stressful week behind me. And what better way than with our new theme. This month, seeing as Autumn has finally started to Fall here in South Africa (see what I did there, huh huh?) I thought that it was the perfect time to focus on everything wonderful that the cooler months have to offer a bride and groom – everything from colours to fashion inspiration to a bit of sound advice. To kick things off, I thought I would round up some of my absolute favourite autumn wedding palettes from over the years. You’ll find the more traditional colour schemes here – the shades of autumn leaves that so many seasonal brides favour – but you’ll also find some fresh twists to inspire. Inspiration Board: Rings & Arrows

Hey lovelies! It may be a public holiday in South Africa (mmm… sleeping in), but I just had to stop in with a sweet little inspiration board. I’m finding pink and blue so satisfying at the moment, and while I really loved the navy/fuschia and pastel pink/blue combos of the last few years, the marriage of the two is what’s really catching my eye right now. A bold, dark blue mashed up with a soft pink or peach, and a touch of gold. I mean, come on, it’s pretty right? Anyway, add in a few little arrows like the ones shot from Cupid’s bow (or just because they’re kinda cool) and you have yourself a wedding inspiration. Enjoy the day off, friends!

Colours: Navy, blush, flamingo & gold

Top row (l-r): Bride & groom {Bia Sampaio Photographs}; ornamental arrows {Sepia Smiles}; shoes {Melissa Kruse}
Row 2: Marquee light arrow {Lauren Peele Photography}; blush wedding gown {Samuelle Couture/Elizabeth Messina Photography}; groom {Catherine Mead}
Row 3: Cake {Sweet & Saucy Shop}; forever in love invitation {Wedding Paper Divas}; blue bridesmaid dresses {Julina Marie Photography}

Let’s take another look at those adorable ornamental arrows, shall we? They’re made by Sepia Smiles, one of the awesome Etsy makers who’ll be exhibiting at this year’s London Etsy Wedding Fair. If you’d like to be in with a chance to win a ticket, be sure to leave a comment on this post before 30 April!

Inspiration Board: The Botanist

Happy Monday, lovelies! When I was putting together last week’s post on the Etsy Wedding Fair, I just fell in love with the gorgeous Liberty print shoes by Hetty Rose, and I thought how amazing they would be for a botanical wedding, which got me all inspired to create a new botanical inspiration board. I really love the unusual colour scheme I’ve ended up with – the soft vintagey peach and off whites, with tiny punches of orange, red, coral and blue. In larger colour blocks, they’d be overpowering, but here they have a lovely, mismatched but pulled together feeling. I’m especially loving the flowers in the image top right and the flower wrapped oversize balloon, and the cutlery escort cards – those little details that catch the eye and spark the imagination. Fun!

Colours: Peach, ivory, emerald, coral, magenta, orange, purple & blue

Top row (l-r): Bride {Hetty Rose}; wreath invitation {Modern Hearts/Katrin Coetzer}; centrepiece {Rustic White/Molly Mckinley}
Row 2: Naked cake {Stephanie Yonce Photography/Amore Events by Cody/Maliha Creations}; cutlery escort cards {Clayton Austin}; cocktail; place setting with fern {Jessica May Photography/Paisley Petals}
Row 3: Balloon with floral tie; peach bridesmaid dresses; botanical wedding shoes {Hetty Rose}

Let’s just take a closer look at those gorgeous shoes, shall we?

They’re created using Liberty botanical print fabric in five different styles, and are made bespoke for you, so you can adapt each style with a heel of your choice and other design features. You’ll find the full range in the Hetty Rose Etsy store.

Inspiration Board: Watercolour Wonderful

If you’d asked me a couple of years ago, I would have told you probably that the watercolour trend that had just started then would be so over by now, but as I’m learning, trends in wedding world have a longer life and more staying power than I used to give them credit for. Especially since everything watercolour has gone from strength to strength – so much so that it has me wishing I could paint, and that’s saying something, since I have the artistic ability of a flea. Fortunately, I can satisfy myself with beautiful painterly palettes like this one, and gently washed out and handpainted details, from stationery to fabric to flowers. Best of all, if you like colour, you can really enjoy a multicoloured scheme, but with a very soft, romantic feel to it, which is basically perfect for a wedding. So ja. I’m #teamwatercolour all the way.

Inspiration Board: Lavender, Peach & Emerald

Goodness but I love this colour combo! Seriously, isn’t it beautiful and fresh? The deep cool of emerald green (adding a touch of formality), softly feminine purple and lavender, and sweet peach, along with cool white. Purple-loving brides take note, because this would be absolutely gorgeous for a range of weddings. As always, I love colours brought out through natural elements, so include lots of emerald foliage in your decor – you could even have green garlands only on your tables. Dress your girls in flowing lavender gowns, and serve peachy bellinis with lavender decorations. Then just add a few more whimsical touches – a floral arch or chandelier for your ceremony, illustrated stationery, a lacy cake. Perfect!

Inspiration Board: Sequins & Succulents

Happy Monday, lovely friends! And what better way to start a Monday than with a bit of glitter? One of my favourite things in wedding design (okay, design in general) is the pairing of two unexpected elements – a chandelier in a tree, black tie in the bushveld, or – as we have here – sequins and sparkle with the classic of rustic flower design, the humble succulent. In fact, succulents have come a long way since they were associated exclusively with rustic weddings, and now you’ll find them prettying up just about any style of celebration. So whether you’re a rustic bride looking for a bit of sparkle, or a formal one looking for a softer natural touch, this is the perfect combination. *Links in bold denote affiliate links. The cost to you remains the same, but SBB may receive a commission for any sales made.

Inspiration Board: Gypsy Rose

So you guys, how are you enjoying boho month? I must admit, Candice and I have been having a ball putting these special features together and we have lots more for you over the next couple of weeks! Although I’m sure we’ll be all boho-ed out after that ;) For a while anyway! Today we have another boho inspiration board – this one inspired by a gypsy wedding and no, I don’t mean the big fat reality TV kind. Think antique caravans, mixed textures, berry shades – basically the old school run away with the gypsies style romance. Hope you like it!

Colours: Scarlet, moss green, aubergine, rose & grey

Inspiration Board: China Blue

Good morning, friends – how was your weekend? I had a very chilled one, full of summer breezes and afternoon naps, and I thought I would bring the cool summer blue on into today’s board. I’ve done a few board around Delft patterns over the last couple of years (which I still love), but let’s not forget other beautiful blue china patterns – whichever you favour, they’re a spectacular family of blue. Brighter than navy, it reminds me of houses on the Santorini hillside, or fresh blueberries, or a deep cold pool on a hot afternoon. The result is the perfect mix of preppy and pretty, with a touch of vintage from the willow pattern. Love!

Colours: Cobalt blue, powder blue, white & grey

Top row (l-r): Blue & white floral invitation {Minted}; portrait lace back dress {Clinton Lotter}; china plates {Steve Steinhardt/Beth Helmstetter Events}

Row 3: Berry bouquet {Sleepy Fox Photography}; white shoes {Jen Huang Photography/Manolo Blahnik}; blue flowergirl dress

Inspiration Board: Blackberry Boho

Morning lovely ones! It’s the start of a new month, and this time, Candice and I thought we would try something different and take a page out of the magazine playbook by having a bit of a theme for our features, and the one we’ve chosen is Boho. That’s not to say that everything we feature in March will be boho (so don’t despair, glamour brides, there’s something for everyone!) but we will be featuring lots of fab bohemian, boho luxe and boho rustic content during the month. So I thought I’d kick things off with a boho board today! You probably know by now how much I love incorporating natural elements like fruit into wedding design, so I was totally inspired a while back when I saw this flower crown that also included berries – SO pretty! That’s where this board started, and it’s ended up somewhere really pretty I think, with tones of blush, raspberry and blackberry against soft white. This is boho at its most romantic – I just want to dive right in.

Colours: Blush pink, garnet, mahogany, green & white

Top row (l-r): Flower crown with berries {Sonya Khegay/Ajur Wedding/Latte decor/Olga Chursina}; cake with berries {Eyelet Images/The Ruffle Effect/Elise Cakes}; bridesmaids {Jen Huang/Magnolia Rouge/Fleuriste}
