Summer Wedding Inspiration in Moody Tones

The minute I saw today’s shoot, I knew it was spot on for the SouthBound Bride reader! This season y’all have embraced those deep, dark, rich and moody tones: berry reds, black, emerald, rich purple, etc. And while these colours naturally lend themselves to a winter wedding, there’s no reason why you can’t make them work just beautifully for summer too! This styled wedding from Tori Lynn Photography and her team of talented Chicago wedding pros has a romantic, moody vibe and mixes deep autumnal colours with a light feel, making it perfect for any season. No surprises that my favourite element (besides a spectacular lace dress, velum stationery, and a beautiful black cake) is the bride’s protea bouquet – it’s a stunner!

Here’s some background from the styling team:
With a deep colors and overflowing floral inspiration, this styled wedding is for any modern bride dreaming of fall colors for her summer wedding! Tying the moody shades with a light dress, greenery overload, and simple details on the table, this wedding inspiration fits with the modern, industrial feel of the venue. The table top was filled with candle votives and gold candlesticks with elegant black candles. The florals overflowing above the table set the summery vibe of the shoot. Copper silverware was a perfect pairing with matte black place settings and elegant calligraphy name cards. Table settings were completed with coloured glass goblets for our bride and groom to enjoy during their special toast!

The bouquet was designed with mass flowers and foliage to achieve a colorful textural impact. I often go with roses when I want a natural feel and a very defined bouquet contour. Protea, an incredible unique tropical flower, is there to add visual interest and groups of spray roses, Astrantia, scabiosa, and Queen Anne’s Lace are the perfect companion for the pink peonies. Brunia, Leucadendron and Pivet Berries add texture and soften the overall design, while the deep purple anemones give a powerful yet delicate color contrast. Since everything in the plant world includes some green, I added different varieties of eucalyptus foliage to edge the design.

The gown was an original Hayley Paige design, with a very detailed top and flowy bottom any summer bride would be able to wear. The gown has a sleeved mesh top full of beading and intricate details. We went with an Ivory gown as most modern brides stray away from white. The deep V on both the front and back gave our model a more mature and elegant look.
