What's Your Bridal Style?

SERAPHINE Couture Silk Paillettes Gown by Gibson Bespoke

*UPDATED FOR 2021* Time for some styling inspiration! Choosing all the elements of your wedding design can be a challenge. What if you’re in love with ALL the things? The best place to start is with your wedding style. Picture your big day. Is it casual or formal? Glam or romantic? Maybe boho or colourful or full of handmade DIY touches? Maybe it’s in a far-flung location, whether that’s a tropical beach or under the Mediterranean sun. Perhaps it’s in your parents’ backyard or in a game lodge in the South African bush. Sometimes it takes just one element to unlock it, whether it’s your location, wedding venue, stationery – or, of course, your wedding dress! To get you inspired, I’ve narrowed down five popular bridal styles and created a styling scrapbook for each one, including some truly spectacular gowns. So the question is: which kind of bride are you?

The Romantic Bride

Light-as-air puff sleeves are the perfect look for a romantic bride right now, and this gorgeous dress from Etsy also has a long, airy train that makes me want to run barefoot through a secret garden (as you do). Plus it’s a convertible dress with a fitted satin midi beneath the ballgown, so you have a built-in afterparty or reception dress. (It’s also a superb option if you’re having two weddings thanks to COVID and need a minimony dress as well as a gown for your sequel wedding.) I immediately picture this at a spring or summer wedding filled with soft blooms, watercolour prints, and fine art wedding detailing. I’ve combined Marissa, a lovely printable wedding invitation from Etsy, with a handpainted cake, silk bridesmaid gowns with flutter sleeves, a draped floral ceremony arch, and lots of beautiful flowers of course! Pretty much obsessed with this romantic look, don’t you agree? (If you do, then you’ve found your bridal style!)

The Destination Bride

What’s Your Bridal Style? Destination

I’m more than a little obsessed with this layered wedding dress found on Etsy. All those tulle ruffles! It really leaves an impression. I immediately thought of a destination wedding somewhere with that old European feel, like a chateau in Italy or France. Combined with gorgeous greenery invitations (like these printable ones from Etsy) and elegantly casual table decor in shades of dusty blue, grey, and taupe with a touch of gold, this really adds up to a dream wedding!

The Glam Luxe Bride

Glamazon brides: your dress is here! This beauty, Seraphine by UK designer, Gibson Bespoke, is the perfect choice for a luxe bride – one who’s chic and sophisticated, and not afraid of a little bling! With shimmering paillettes and sheer sleeves, this one is a true showstopper. It matches perfectly with a wedding design that’s extra in all the right places – think modern Gatsby: crystal chandeliers, mountains of flowers, sparkly bridesmaids, designer shoes, and touches of marble and gold.

The City Chic Bride

What’s Your Bridal Style? City Chic

I do love a jumpsuit for a city chic bride! So stylish, flattering, and comfortable too. The Vasilisa bridal jumpsuit comes with a feminine lace top and a sweet chiffon bow at the back. I’ve paired it with a dark and moody urban palette in shades of pewter, marsala, red, black, gold, and deep emerald green. Be sure to balance industrial elements like Edison bulbs with more romantic ones, like soft blooms and candlelight, and choose elegantly modern minimalist stationery (love this black and white typography one from Etsy!) What to serve instead of traditional cake? How about glittery gold donuts. Now that’s a feature that will have your guests talking!

The Bohemian Bride

What’s Your Bridal Style? Bohemian

Finally, meet gorgeous Barcelona from indie bridal brand, Wear Your Love. I’ve chosen to pair it with the desert bohemian wedding style which is super on-trend. The gorgeous lace is ideal for a free-spirited bride, whether she’s having a wedding that’s relaxed and outdoors, or has chosen the boho glam look. I love this style paired with a dried floral invitation suite, boho florals like proteas, pampas grass, and succulents, lace bridesmaid dresses, and a delicate boho bridal hairpiece.
