So as you all know, April is our month for intimate weddings, and one of the things we love about a small guest list is that you can allocate a bit more of your budget to extravagant details. Hands up, I’m a bit of a stationery fiend, and there’s also nothing I love more than sending and receiving little parcels, so when I see creative, elaborate invitations (especially those that require more than the usual envelope to send) I get really excited (yep, I’m dorky like that). The thing is, I know that those sorts of invitations don’t scale up well to 120 guests on a normal budget. So as I say, this is one of those details that’s absolutely perfect for a small, intimate, beautifully styled affair. Here are 10 of my all-time favourite wedding invitation packages, made by some of the most talented and creative designers in the industry!
A mix of watercolour detailing, calligraphy and an embroidery hoop, all in a round white box – this invite is SO PRETTY! It was inspired by vintage millinery, and the detailing is amazing – the watercolour flowers are painted in tiny x shapes to imitate cross-stitch embroidery, and the hoop is painted copper for a bit of antique style glamour. And let’s just talk about that bed of moss… Sigh. By Momental Designs & Meant to Be Calligraphy via Oh So Beautiful Paper, photographs by With Love and Embers
A message in a bottle is kind of a beach wedding classic now, and honestly, I’ve seen mass produced versions that are a little… tacky. But there’s nothing cheap about this gorgeous version – a hand calligraphed scroll, a vintage bottle, and calligraphed driftwood name tags to match. Pack it all up in a box, or wrap in burlap and hand deliver. By The Weekend Type, photographs by Korie Lynn Herold
Fabric makes a beautiful addition to any invitation suite, as it switches things up a bit by bringing in a whole new texture and a delightfully unexpected element. For this very special Parisian-inspired suite, beautiful foil-pressed paper inserts are complemented by dainty white handkerchiefs with the invitation printed on them. Speaking of fabrics, here’s another gorgeous suite made even more amazing by the inclusion of a fabric print detail. This time the French influence is Provence, with little ticking bags emulating grain sacks and not only having the main invitation on them, but enclosing the rest of the paper suite. Just… wow. By now you’ve probably seen the viewfinder save the date that took the internet by storm, but this white version with blush and gold stationery detailing takes things up a notch in the style stakes. Whimsical, classic and fun. What more could you want? By Ceci New York via Ceci Style, photographs by Corbin Gurkin Photography
Look at this little package. I just want to pick it up and smell the leather. It was created for a lucky bride and groom planning a destination wedding in Italy – the little booklet contained info on their wedding location and programme, beautiful illustrations and black and white photographs, and hand stitched binding complete with a little wax seal. All wrapped in a vintage map print. Invitation perfection. By Ladyfingers Letterpress
If you’re a-plannin’ something woodsy and wonderful, then why not set the tone by presenting your guests with a little taste of the forest? Woodcuts are printed with Save the Dates or invitations, and presented in a kraft paper box filled with moss and pinecones. Just imagine opening this up – so exciting! By Lesley Weiner/Mélangerie Inc
This has to be the ultimate in interactive invitations! Not just a package that looks like a game, but a fully operational board game based around the events of the couple’s wedding weekend. It includes hand-drawn game pieces representing bride, groom, etc., die, and a board that opens out on the back of the letterpress invite. Seriously cool. Plus there’s so much fun and wit in the game itself – this is how to provide necessary information in a fun and unforgettable way. By Ceci New York via Ceci Style, photographs by Jacklyn Greenberg
Here’s another package that really sets the tone for the wedding to come – in this case a destination affair in Greece. Monogrammed leather luggage tags invite guests to save the date, while a vintage map in the Tiffany-blue box gets across that feeling of adventure and travel. These are Save the Dates, but there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be able to work it into an invitation package instead. Finally, for you music lovers, I can’t think of anything more awesome than a little LP with a custom album cover. I especially love the way that the couple included all the necessary directions in a sign on the back cover – so cute! You can get CDs that look like LPs if you want to give your guests a ‘mix tape’ preview of your wedding playlist, or just look for discarded old records in charity shops and replace the original labels with your own.
