Afternoon, friends – time for another colour story to follow up on one of your favourite inspiration boards. This colour combo was a real winner when I put it together back in February. There’s something soft and pretty but also quite zingy about the way mint and peach work together. In fact, I liked the combination so much myself that I used it for our EdWed logo. Here’s the original board:
What’s more, mint and peach are the absolute perfect colour combo for a spring wedding, making them extra lovely at this time of year in South Africa. Add loads of white details – layers of tulle, crisp linens, bundles of soft white blooms, for even more beautiful country style, or keep things sleek and modern for a city celebration. There are so many possibilities.
Another Monday, another inspiration board, and I have to say, I am more than a little in love with this one. I’ve had a lot of requests over the last year for blush and mint weddings, and when I came across this invitation suite from Hey Look I was BLOWN AWAY by how amazing this soft, romantic colour combination works with the modern graphic black and white. With just a touch of gold, of course. It immediately got me thinking of how I often hear brides saying they want something modern but also vintage, and I think maybe this board is a little of what they mean – a contemporary feel without being too stark, and a romantic dreamy backdrop without being too fluffy. The combination sort of reminds me of Audrey Hepburn, who managed to be cutting edge stylish and incredibly classic all at the same time. Beautiful!

Colours: Blush, pastel green, graphic black and white with a touch of gold
Some weddings are all tradition and formality and classic palettes. Invitations are engraved, etiquette is followed. They’re lovely, of course. But the other kind of wedding I love is when a couple takes their cue from their favourite kind of party: a brunch, a dinner party, a picnic, a festival even. Or, in the case of this board, a summer garden party. Sundresses for the ladies, lemonade, alcoholic popsicles, ribbon wands. Red, pink and orange were a popular colour combo a few years ago, but they’re updated here with melon, pink and a punch of yellow – and how gorgeous is that bright citrusy table and bouquet? This would be such a fun wedding to host and attend, and is perfect for a couple who would like to keep things more lighthearted with their palette.
I read a lot of wedding blogs, but one that consistently inspires is the fab Magnolia Rouge – I never fail to be inspired by what Kate features! This week one of the pics she posted from a shoot by the fabulously talented Annabella Charles caught my eye, and I was immediately carried away with the idea of a beautiful Midsummer Night’s Dream garden party theme – a delicious twist on the soft pink, green and gold colour scheme that I know so many of you are in love with at the moment. Delicate climbing vines (how pretty is this table?), lush blooms, curly calligraphy, a mossy bed for the rings, a touch of glitz and a night dancing under the stars. It’s elegant, but soft and romantic and even a little bit playful – the perfect combination!
Morning, lovelies! How was your weekend? I am still playing catchup with admin – sometimes it seems never-ending, doesn’t it? But I’m here with an inspiration board to literally brighten your morning. Okes, this might be one of my favourite colour combos ever. When neon brights started making their way into weddings, I was first a little horrified, then intrigued. I decided I liked them, but in a sort of graphic, modern way. But I’ve also been quietly intrigued as to how you could use them in a pretty, soft way as well, one that would suit more brides. And this is pretty much it. A palette of soft grey, coral and then a pop of lumo yellow. Sounds insane, but the brights really bring out the other colours and I just adore the end result! What do you think?
Hello friends! It’s a public holiday in the UK today, but will I be enjoying it? No, sadly, I’ll be in bed as I have been for the rest of the weekend, nursing what is (obviously) the worst cold ever (isn’t it always?). Not ideal, and I am feeling rather sorry for myself, so please send me some super psychic healing vibes! ;) The good news is that being sick is a great excuse to re-watch some of my favourite movies (I have a friend who does the BBC Pride & Prejudice whenever she’s laid up, which I am considering), and speaking of that, I caught an old fave that I haven’t seen for YEARS on TV a couple of weeks ago, Steel Magnolias. Love that film, mostly because I want to be Miss Weezer. I always chuckle at Shelby’s wedding colours, blush and bashful, especially when you see the uber ’90s candy floss pink fest that Julia Roberts’ character actually does get married in, but it got me wondering how I would re-imagine blush and bashful for a modern bride. What I like about the use of two shades of pink (especially with today’s leaning toward ombre and watercolour) is the fact that they can be used as a soft base (almost like an all white wedding, but blush) and not be too matchy matchy, if the colours are allowed to graduate. I especially like combining these very girly shades with very pretty natural flowers and textures, like dogwood and honeysuckle. There’s no denying it’s a very feminine look, but even a pink wedding doesn’t have to be all Katie Price. So blush and bashful it is. What do y’all think?

A couple of months ago, to highlight our new Summer Rain invitation line in collaboration with The Invitation Gallery, I put together some colour boards. It was such a popular post, that I thought I would do it again today for another colour combo that had you all pinning and repinning when it appeared in our Spring Pastels inspiration board a few months back: aqua, lavender and pink. I personally think the combination is perfect for someone who wants something girly but sophisticated – it makes me think of Laduree and rose gardens and pretty crockery, and the three colours balance each other out beautifully. So here we go… be inspired!
I have an extra special inspiration board today, as it’s for my beautiful cousin Caitlin, who’s currently planning her wedding. Caty grew up on an apple, pear and now wine farm in Elgin – one of the most beautiful places ever – and that’s where she and her fiance will be having their late spring wedding this year. It’s going to be gorgeous, and I love Caty’s idea of using a soft, dreamy palette of whites, creams, grey and pale blush pink with lush blooms and some rustic textures that pay tribute to the farm with wine barrels and apple crates. I think when you go for this sort of look, the best thing is to keep it simple but do the basics well – gorgeous flowers are the biggest building block, along with soft hair, flowy bridesmaids’ dresses (in grey, white or blush will work). I’d mix up the bouquets to include a variety of blooms including silver brunia, but also blushing bride proteas (a big floral crush of mine at the moment!). Use rustic shutters (to hold escort cards?), calligraphed signs and printed calligraphy napkin menus, and apple cocktails for after the ceremony (also love these painted white apples as place or escort cards, or just for fun). I’ve also included a little nod to Caty’s rowing talents with an oar guest book (although another sweet idea is to use paddles as signposts). It all adds up to a classic but contemporary look that is super romantic.

Here’s our last inspiration board for the week, and while the rest have been reader requests, this one’s just for me :) One of my biggest sources of inspiration is the amazing online magazine Magnolia Rouge, and in the last issue, one of my favourites was a gorgeous bouquet recipe photographed by Annabella Charles. I absolutely loved the mix of cool green, soft pinks and purples and a pop of bright fuschia, as well as the botanical feel of the bouquet and the feature. Botanicals are a big design trend in weddings this year (more on that soon) but while most botanical looks feature muted colours, I was inspired to create a board that incorporated both the delicate botanical look and that beautiful dash of bright colour. I love it – hope you do too!
Good morning, friends! Who’s ready for an inspiration-filled week? Well, I hope you are, because this week we have not one but FIVE reader requested inspiration boards to share with you. That’s a different board every day, and five different looks to fall in love with. And that’s alongside our usual raft of loveliness, so get ready to get in trouble with your IT department for stopping by SBB at least twice a day! ;) (Of course, if that’s a problem, you can always subscribe via email.) So let’s get started! Today’s board is for reader Ashley, who’s planning an autumn wedding at a lake house in Minnesota. How romantic does that sound? And romantic is the right word for the palette she’s chosen (LOVE): navy, mint and blush. Most autumn palettes are warm, but this combination of cool shades makes me think of those first chilly mornings by the water (how I miss my river runs!). Ashley’s theme for her wedding is ‘happy, love, best friends’ and she wants a mix of classic, vintage and casual comfy. I think we’ve struck the right balance here and I love the typographic elements – the invitation using the ‘today I marry my best friend’ quote and the thank you card at each guest place. The final result is soft but a little preppy, and very very pretty. Hope you like your board, Ashley!
