There’s no question that Cape Point is one of the most stunning places in this beautiful country of ours, and that a sunset on what feels like the end of the world is like no other. It also happens to make an incredible setting for a wedding, as Carrie and Gavin knew when they picked Cape Point Vineyards for their celebration. For their darling day, they chose a gorgeous palette of dusty blues and greys and complemented that with pastel blooms of all shapes and sizes (gorgeous work as always by SBB fave, Bright and Beautiful!). The whole look is strong but delicate, which is actually super appropriate since Carrie is a former ballerina (love how they incorporated her slippers in the decor too!). From the outdoor ceremony until long after the sun went down, it was a day filled with love and laughter, beautifully captured by Illuminate Photography!
Love Story
I met Gavin about a month after I matriculated. His best friend knew my best friend, and we ended up hanging around in the same group a few times. I noticed Gavin first, and I ended up approaching him to give him my number. We were together for eight years before we got married.
The Proposal
Gavin surprised me with plane tickets and took us off to Paris. He then proposed to me in front of the Eiffel Tower at night time, when it was all lit up and sparkling. It was so beautiful and special!
The Venue
Cape Point Vineyards always does an evening market on a Thursday. We went to the market one evening with friends and we both just loved it! The sun setting over the vineyards and the sea was just incredible! We weren’t even engaged yet at that point, but I was already thinking that this would make a perfect ceremony and reception venue. Once we were engaged, we looked at a few other places but nothing seemed to compare to Cape Point Vineyards.
Wedding Style
Gavin and I both loved the idea of blues and greys/silvers. We knew we wanted blue hydrangeas and beautiful white roses. I also did ballet for twenty years and we knew we wanted to add in some pretty pink ballet shoes somewhere in the venue to bring some individuality to our wedding. With this in mind, Neva created the most stunning floral arrangements and brought our vision to life, as well as adding some ballet shoes under our bridal table.
DIY Elements
My surname is Byrne (pronounced like “burn”) and Gavin’s surname is Fox, so we came up with the idea of a logo of a fox with a burning (“Byrne”ing) tail. Gavin is very artistic and he drew a fox with a big fiery red tail. We then incorporated our logo into our wedding invitation, and onto our menus and seating chart.
The Dress
I tried on a few ready-made dresses at Robyn Roberts Bridal Wear and loved different elements of each of the dresses that I tried on. So I decided to have the dress made to incorporate all of those elements. Robyn made the perfect dress, which was the exact vision that I had been hoping for. It was absolutely stunning with the most gorgeous lace and I really did feel like a princess on my wedding day!
The Bridesmaids
I had three bridesmaids and I knew I wanted them in long simple dresses in a blue/grey colour to match the colour scheme of the flowers and decor. A friend of my mom’s made the dresses and she generously offered to come with us to look for material for the dresses. We looked through quite a lot of options before we spotted the perfect colour. I felt that the colour was a bit different to bridesmaid dresses I had seen before which made them feel more special.
Memorable Moment
The ceremony was definitely the highlight of the day. It had been raining the day before, but on the day of our wedding it was a perfect day. The arch was covered in the most gorgeous white flowers and everything just went perfectly to plan. Gavin and I also made a point of going outside during the reception while the sun was setting and watching the sunset together. It was amazing to have a moment to ourselves to share this beautiful moment during our wedding.
Best Decision
The best decision was to have our wedding planner, Neva. She helped us keep track of every detail and ensured that the wedding process and day-of were completely stress-free. Her flower arrangements were just incredible and went above and beyond what we had hoped and envisioned.
Advice for Future Brides & Grooms
Enjoy the process. It is so much fun planning a wedding! Also make sure to take a moment for yourselves (the bride and the groom) at some point during the day. It really does go by so quickly and it is important that you take that moment to be together, just the two of you, to really savour it.
