Happy July, lovelies! It’s appropriate that we’re kicking off this month – which we’ve themed around the idea of ‘greenhouse’ (think everything floral, botanical & beautiful) with a wedding that took its inspiration from a flower, and one of our favourite flowers at that. Hydrangeas are just so gorgeous, I absolutely love them, and they always give weddings this lovely summery feeling as well as a naturally ombre/watercolour vibe. Nikki & Lloyd filled their vineyard wedding and reception with these blooms, and reflected the colours in everything from stationery to bridesmaid dresses (beautifully made as always by our friends at Gelique), to their adorable getaway car. And talking of adorable, it’s super cute that the couple had little dog attendants alongside their human ones! Leanne Love was on the scene to capture these wonderful pictures.
Love Story
We met when I was 15, he was 17. We were out with friends and got introduced… the rest is history!
The Proposal
Our brother-in-law is a pilot and told us that the people that he was meant to take flying had cancelled and offered us a flight in the helicopter. We went up with him and started to fly toward Franschhoek. Then he said that he needed to land as one of the dials was not working. He landed at Haute Cabriere wine estate. We were taken inside and had an amazing lunch. After we ordered dessert, I was led down to a private cellar. The waiter brought down our dessert and on the plate was “Will you Marry Me Nikki?” in white chocolate. Champagne and celebrations followed :)
The Venue
I fell in love with Longridge the minute I walked in. It suited us so well. It is intimate, traditional and drop-dead-gorgeous!
Wedding Style
We went very natural. Our flowers were hydrangeas and we used that as the colour palette. My bridesmaids wore duck-egg blue and there was a lot of lace detail across the entire wedding.
Wedding Details
Our wedding was natural, intimate and filled with so much love. It was the perfect day for us. We wanted the wedding outside, with natural features like no tablecloths, lots of flowers and candles. It came out perfectly!
DIY Elements
We made all of our menus, favours and orders of service ourselves and had a family friend assist us with the flowers and décor.
The Flowers
Hydrangeas, hydrangeas and more hydrangeas!
The Dress
As my bestie lives in Johannesburg, when she was down the previous December, we decided to go and try on gowns for fun. At the second boutique we visited, I put on the dress and everyone burst into tears. I knew it was the one. The dress was an Oksana Mukha gown with a princess shape and lots of lace detail.
Memorable Moment
Walking down the aisle – a dream come true.
The Honeymoon
We went to Sri Lanka. We planned it together. My husband lived there when he was young and wanted to take me back. It was absolutely spectacular!
