Supplier Spotlight: Whichgoose Flower Crowns

If you loved the look of bridesmaids in flower crowns that we shared last week, but don’t necessarily want to work with fresh flowers, then you’ll love today’s supplier spotlight. Of course, these lil’ beauties are great for brides too, or for festivals, or for parties, or just for sitting around watching Suits and feeling pretty. Whichgoose is a fab Etsy store with all kinds of little treasures, most notably for me the collection of hairpieces and crowns. They ship internationally from the US, which means that South African brides can get orders within about 2-3 weeks, so be sure to build that in to your order time. Let’s take a look, shall we? Just click on any of the images below to be taken to the item listing on Etsy.Read More

Boho Bridal Accessories from Bo & Luca

I don’t know about you, but whenever I see a bride in a gorgeous chain or jewel headpiece, it stops me in my tracks. They’re so… goddessy. Which should totally be a word, Oxford. But where to find these boho beauties? I was thrilled to discover that one of my favourite labels, Bo & Luca, is just such a place, and with a Cape Town store, I’m sure we’ll be seeing lots more of these lovelies making their way down the aisle in SA this season. So of course I had to share some pretty pictures with you all, because pretty pictures and awesome accessories (and alliteration, apparently) are just my THING.Read More

Sandals for Beach & Boho Brides

A beach or boho bride may ideally be a barefoot bride, but let’s be honest, even the most down-to-earth bridal style probably calls for soles for at least some of the time (pulling thorns out of your feet on the way down the aisle? not a good look). Fortunately, there’s an easy solution: a pair of pretty sandals which will not only look fabulous under your flowy frock, but can be worn again on honeymoon and countless other occasions after the big day (which isn’t something you can say about all bridal footwear). Flat sandals have come such a long way since I was young, and now even the big designers produce stunning slip-slops as part of their collections. That’s not to say you have to spend a fortune though – as you’ll see below, we’ve rounded up a set of 15 gorgeous shoes in a variety of price ranges. The only tough part is choosing a favourite!

Romantic ART Life Collection 2015

You know that moment in Say Yes to the Dress (go on, we all watch it) when a bride’s all “hmm, I like this dress so much, but I’m not completely…” and a consultant will add a sparkly belt or a hairpiece or a veil and suddenly everyone’s like “OMG that’s IT!”. When it comes to bridal style, accessories matter. The right accent can turn a simple, chic gown into something extra special and completely bespoke. The right hairpiece can add a touch of knee-melting romance. Not just for brides either – this is a perfect way to turn a basic bridesmaid look into a super stylish one. And that’s why I absolutely love this collection of flower accessories from Romantic ART Life. Each piece, from floral hairpieces to sashes, is handcrafted, inspired by the delicate beauty of nature, and created using fine fabrics, soft laces, delicate beadwork and crystals. Supplier Spotlight: Saint Mogue

I don’t envy you brides sometimes. It seems like every day I see something new and pretty that I love – it must be soooo difficult to make decisions, especially when it comes to your bridal style. So many pretty options for veils, hair accessories, flower crowns. Well, today I’m going to make that decision even harder (in a good way!) by introducing you to an absolutely gorgeous (local!) range that is absolutely PERFECT for a bride (or her maids). Cara, the creative behind Saint Mogue, first came across the art of silk flowers and bespoke millinery when she was searching out the perfect piece for her own big day, and it ultimately evolved into her own line of beautiful headpieces and heirloom florals. What I love about Cara’s work is that even though she’s working in silk, there’s a fresh naturalness to the flowers and leaves she makes, so you get the best of both worlds – a touch of nature, but one that you can keep and hand down. Beautiful! You can visit Saint Mogue Etsy store directly here, or find out more about Cara and her company in our Suppliers Directory.Read More

Jannie Baltzer 2014

Woohoo, Friday! Have y’all had a good week? I am in Kruger as we speak, having a girl’s weekend with my mom, one of her besties, and one of mine (who also happen to be mother and daughter). So guaranteed I am having an awesome time, but after you see this set of stunning pics and bridal accessories, so will you be even before the weekend starts. Hands up any South African brides who have heard of Jannie Baltzer ? I am hoping that’s a lot of you, but if not, allow me to introduce you to her. This range of INSANEly beautiful headpieces and accessories has been setting Wedding World alight for the last few years, every delicate, memorable, gorgeous-making piece. So I thought it was high time that I brought a bit of this loveliness right here to SBB. Enjoy, and have a lovely weekend – I’ll see you back on an extended schedule next week. Assuming the Wifi is working and I don’t have to be on my mobile internet because THAT IS ANOTHER STORY. I don’t want to talk about it. The internet in South Africa makes me MAD. Anyway, yay! Pretty hairpieces! Happy face! ;) Have a brilliant weekend friends – I’ll be back with my roundup on Sunday!Read More

How to Wear Statement Bridal Jewellery

Source: Oak & the Owl/Em the Gem

This morning, lovelies, we’re talking about one of my all-time favourite things. Jewellery! Oh yes indeed, because who doesn’t love looking at (and wearing) pretty jewels? I’m a huge fan of sticking to classic fashion and using interesting accessories to make it pop, so it’s no wonder really that I’m so in love with the current trend for wearing statement jewellery on your wedding day. After all, if it’s not your personal style in day-to-day life, why suddenly revert to a demure string of pearls on your wedding day? The big question for a number of brides I talk to, though, is how exactly to rock this look without going overboard – after all, nobody wants to look like a bride who (as someone once said about Joss Stone) was covered with glue and rolled through Claire’s Accessories. So today, courtesy of the good folks at Fragments Jewelry, we’re bringing you all the tips and inspiration from real brides that you need. And, just because I can’t resist it, I’m sharing some of my favourite pieces from the Fragments collection. If you’re not already familiar with the brand, then do head over to their online store – but you might want to get someone to hide your credit card first, because I warn you, what you’ll find there is seriously gorgeous!Read More

Kate Spade: A Love Letter

I’m not going to lie, this might be one of my most self-indulgent posts ever. Especially since Kate Spade isn’t actually available in South Africa just yet. But what can I say, it’s an excellent excuse to start sucking up to whichever friend/relative/co-worker you know who might be going to Europe or the States before your wedding to get them to bring you a pair, because Kate’s shoes are MADE for weddings. The perfect mix of classic and cute, they all also have that extra little something, which often just happens to be a bit of sparkle, and as you guys know, I am kind of obsessed with a touch of sparkle. It never looks prettier than on a bride’s feet, even when there’s no other glitter in an otherwise traditional palette. So it’s no wonder that so many brides opt for Kate, and that everytime they do, their shoe pics get Pinned a zillion times over. Feel free to do just that with all of these lovelies. ;)

The ‘classic’ Kate Spade wedding shoe is the Charm slingback, which comes in black, gold, silver and a bright multicolour glitter. One day, these shoes WILL BE MINE.

Parant Parant Bridal Headpieces

Before this Thursday is out and I tuck into an evening martini, I thought it was time for another little snippet of bridal fashion inspiration – and this time, we’re letting things go to our heads. If by things, I mean super gorgeous bridal headpieces from Swedish designer Parant Parant. I’ve been meaning to share these inspiring little pieces of heaven with you for ages, and with everything going Gatsby this year, there’s never been a better time to go for a statement headpiece. I love that the Parant Parant pieces are romantic and feminine, but bold. They make for gorgeous pictures, so if you’re not brave enough to wear one all day, consider doing so just for the reception or even just for the photo session – I’ve seen brides do this before and it looks amazing. Plus it just gives you all the more reason to find an excuse to get dressed up and wear your headpiece again ;) Read More
