Cheryl McEwan, I could kiss you. Every time we feature one of this lovely Cape Town photographer’s weddings, I get to immerse myself in golden light and pure romance. Of course, it doesn’t hurt when, as with Tarryn and Aidan’s big day, the bride is a beauty, her hubs is dapper as can be, and their classically styled wedding is choc full of pretty in pink details from the cookie favours right down to Tarryn’s blush Badgley Mischkas (shoe swoon!). There’s so much to love about this wedding, so let’s get started, shall we?
Love Story
Aidan was born in Cape Town and then his family moved to Australia when he was two. We actually met in Cape Town when he came over for a trip with his family, seven years ago. I was good friends with one of his cousins and he introduced us. We now both live in Australia and the rest is history!
The Proposal
Aidan proposed while we were on a trip in Sydney celebrating our three year anniversary. It was very private, just the two of us, but very romantic and a moment I will never forget.
The Venue
We chose to have our wedding weekend celebration at Zorgvliet Wine Estate in the Banhoek Valley. It was the perfect venue with magnificent views of the mountains and surrounds, which is what we wanted.
Wedding Style
My vision was to have a soft, romantic yet modern sort of theme. With mostly white and a very soft blush pink colour scheme. I just wanted everything to be pretty and have a romantic feel. It was a black tie event as I wanted everyone to dress up and just have a blast!
Wedding Details
We let go of white balloons as we came out of the church after the ceremony in honour of our loved ones, namely, Aidan’s dad (who actually passed away a few months before we met and this is the reason they came back on a trip to Cape Town to see the rest of the family – we feel as though he had a part in us meeting and being together today). Also, Aidan’s auntie and then my grandfather who passed in March just before our wedding. So that was very personal to us and the sight of the balloons in the sky was a nice touch.
DIY Elements
We gave little candles as wedding favours, I DIYed the labels and the ribbons around them. They were in honour of ‘letting love shine’.
The Dress
I got my dress at Bride & Co. I tried on quite a few but knew that was the one as soon as I put it on.
The Bridesmaids
I had three of my best friends as bridesmaids, and they wore floor length soft blush pink dresses.
The Flowers
My bouquet was all white roses with little diamantes inside the buds. I also had lace from my late grandmother’s wedding dress wrapped around the stems as a personal touch.
Memorable Moments
My favourite part was saying ‘I do’ and being pronounced husband and wife. Marriage is such a sacred and special union. But our whole day was just amazing!
Best Decision
Going with my gut on what I really wanted.
Advice for Future Brides & Grooms
Listen to your heart, if there are details you would like to include and are important to you, even if others disagree, because it is your special day!
