You know how on Say Yes to the Dress (go on, we all watch it sometimes), there are those moments when a bride comes in and she’s adamant about a specific shape of dress she wants, and when she puts it on it just looks… wrong. And then, if she’s smart, she tries a shape the consultant suggests instead, and is instantly transformed into a goddess? I love those, because I KNOW the feeling of trying something on and it looks nothing like how it did in your head or on the hanger and you feel desperate because omigodnothingisevergoingtofitmeorlookawesome. Trying something on that is right for your shape is the opposite of that feeling, but the truth is that it only happens when you let go of some of the pre-set ideas you have, and work with reality. That’s what this series is about – making our brides feel like a zillion dollars, whichever of the seven gorgeous body shapes they are rocking. Today we are all about neat hourglass shapes, and I’ll be giving you some tips for dressing this shape to perfection as well as swooning over some dresses from the latest designer ranges.

Wedding Dresses for Strawberry Shaped Brides
Afternoon lovely people, and this Friday there’s just enough time for us to have another installment in our series looking at wedding dresses ideal for your body shape. Brides come in all shapes and sizes – it isn’t about looking like some perfect perfume-advert style bride or fitting into the smallest dress in the shop, it’s all about celebrating your own beauty and style. After all, that’s what your groom fell in love with, right? Choosing a wedding dress that highlights your best features is the best way to feel amazing, so try to let go of any hard and fast ideas you may have about the silhouette you want to cut, try lots on, and take the advice of your seamstress or gown salespeople, who really know what they’re talking about. Today we’re focusing on inverted triangle/strawberry shape brides, and sharing some exquisite dresses from the Fall 2014 designer ranges to inspire and illustrate.
Wedding Dresses for Column Shaped Brides
Time for the second installment in our new series on choosing a wedding dress for your body shape, and I must admit, as an hourglass I am more than a little jealous of this silhouette (we always want what we don’t have, right?).Columns/bananas are slim builds, often athletic, with similar measurements throughout the bust/waist/hip zones. They have narrow shoulders, lean limbs, narrow hips and flat bums. They also tend to have long waists with little definition. The look is angular (and very easy to dress well), with both a small upper and trim lower body to accentuate. As with our feature on pear-shaped brides, I’ve chosen some beautiful dresses from the Spring 2014 collections to illustrate.
Wedding Dresses for Pear Shaped Brides
Today we’re starting a new series, looking at how to buy a wedding dress that suits your body shape. I’m always a bit dubious of body shape stuff (mostly because the things they say for mine are usually nonsense) and I do think that the best thing you can do is to try on lots of dresses and have a chat with the ladies who work at dress shops, because they really know their stuff. But with that said, I think it’s a good idea to have a starting point. You want to look your very best on your wedding day, and the good news is, whatever your shape, there’s a dress (or several) out there that will make you look like a superstar. It’s all about emphasizing your best features and playing a bit of visual trickery to draw the eye towards them. We’re starting today with pear or triangle shape brides – a really common shape, and one which is pretty much made for a wedding dress! And as long as you avoid the wrong type of dress, the answer is no, your bum won’t look big in this. ;)
