Best of 2015: Details & Ideas

Hello lovelies! I’ve been so loving sharing our wedding faves from 2015 with you over the last week, and today we’re focusing on one of my favourite things – details! Details for me are one of those places where you can get creative and tell your own story, and for me as a blogger, they’re the things I notice when I’m scrolling through a submission that make me go “OOH!” Whether it’s decor, flowers, a twist on tradition or something else, these are the things that make wedding media so awesome, because maybe one of them will inspire something special for your big day. So as always, in no particular order, let’s take a look at the Top 20!

Best of 2015: Aisle & Ceremony Decor

Last year was the first time we did a roundup specifically of aisle and ceremony decor, and I couldn’t be happier to include this category! These days it seems like there’s so much extra care and creativity given to the ceremony part of a wedding – which is just as it should be, because let’s be honest, this is THE MOMENT of the day. Whether it’s personalised signage or floral arches (oh, floral arches!!) or simply a stunning setting from church to forest to beach, it’s important to take some time to really think about the atmosphere you want to create for yourself as you walk down (or wait at the top of) the aisle. So let’s take a look at those wedding ceremonies that inspired us the most on SBB in 2015.

Best of 2015: Table Decor (Part I)

When it came to rounding up our favourite table decor for 2015, we wanted to go further than just including a few pics, because this is the kind of inspiration that can really inspire other brides and grooms on a practical level, to create a similar look for themselves. So we decided we’d do a special roundup in the style of our ‘Ten Tables’ series, breaking down each table into its components, along with shoppable links, so that you can mix and match to create the table for your own wedding (or other event) that’s perfect for you. We’re starting off with the first five this afternoon, and we’ll be back with the second half later today.

Travel Themed Wedding Trends Reloaded

I’ve heard planners calling it the wedding trend that just won’t die – and it’s true, in that I’ve been writing about travel-themed weddings for about as long as I’ve been blogging. But there’s a reason why this motif isn’t going away, and that’s because it’s meaningful. You guys – i.e. the only people who really matter when it comes to planning your big day – love travelling or you’ve travelled together, or you come from different places, or you’ve done long distance. Travel is part of your story, and it’s the story you want to share with your guests. We get that, and that’s why November is dedicated to travel themed weddings. BUT. SBB is in the business not only of helping you tell your story, but doing it with style. And sure, we could just reshare all the same ideas (the ones that have made this roundup, and this follow-up two of our most popular posts), but you only have to search Pinterest to find any of those. We’re all about fresh takes and new angles, and that’s what I hope to bring you through November. So there’s no better way to kick things off than with a reload of the travel-themed wedding ideas that have been around the longest and are a little… done. Of course, if you love them, that won’t matter – but here’s some food for thought in creating the same effect in an updated way.Read More

20 Vineyard Wedding Ideas

Hello lovelies! Since we’re talking vineyard weddings in October, I thought it was the perfect moment for me to round up 20 ways that you can bring a winery theme to your wedding – even if you aren’t planning a wine route celebration. There are so many cute ideas out there, from decor to favours to guest books, and while of course you’re not going to want to do ALL of them (too themey!), adding in a couple will add that extra layer of detail that makes your guests go ‘ooh!’ I’ve tried to find some fresh new ideas, as well as some classics, so scroll down and find your favourite. But I think you’ll agree, they’re all rather ‘wine-derful’! (Lame joke, I know. Sorrynotsorry.) Read More

15 Ways to Use Wine Barrels in Your Wedding Decor

Y’all already know that I am all about the details when it comes to wedding decor, and when it comes to winelands weddings, there are a couple of details that can really add an elegantly rustic vineyard ‘theme’ to complement the venue. We’ll be rounding up a whole lot of these ideas soon, but for today, we’re focusing on one of my favourites: wooden wine barrels. I never get tired of seeing these at real weddings – I don’t know why, but there’s something so romantic about them as a feature piece, maybe because they bring to mind the French countryside, or a vintage cellar. Whatever the reason, they’re lovely, and the good news is that they’re also pretty versatile in terms of how you can use them. Here are 15 of my favourite ideas from around the web.Read More

20 Escort Card Displays & Table Plans for Spring Weddings

Happy Friday lovelies! I am away for the long weekend (as, I know, are many of you all!) so I thought I would simply bring you a fun little roundup. Escort card displays are one of those details that aren’t strictly necessary in terms of getting too fussed, but I have to admit that it’s one wedding detail that always captures my imagination when it’s done well, and makes an event’s design stand apart. I think it’s because it’s a great way to showcase something about your theme without being too themey, about your story without having to make it a theme, or something about your season or venue that just adds to the whole ambience of the reception. So I’m a fan. And for that reason, I’ve been trawling the webs, picking out my favourite plans and displays that are absolutely PERFECT for a sweet spring wedding. Whether they incorporate spring blooms, fruits, or motifs like birds/eggs or gardening, each of these is sure to make your guests take notice, and set the mood for the most perfect spring celebration.Read More

15 Cosy & Chic Autumn Wedding Details & Ideas

Image credit: Jenna Joseph Photography/Kelsey Rae Designs on SouthBound Bride

I’ll tell you a secret. When I started wedding blogging, it wasn’t the dreamy dresses or the rising trends or even the beautiful photography that first drew me in – it was the details. Those surprising little elements that I would come across and think “wow, that’s a cool idea,” and sort of file away in my memory in case I ever needed to use it. Five years and many, many real weddings on my own and others’ blogs, and there are way too many of those details for me to ever try and store in my brain. And that’s why I love doing these little roundups, because it gives me a chance to go back and remember some of those cool ideas, and share them with you all. This month, as you know, we’re all about autumn weddings, and there’s an absolute WEALTH of stuff you can do – fruits, vegetables and flowers that are iconic of the harvest season, cosy warm weather activities, autumn palettes, traditional change-of-season food. Adding a few of these elements and autumn wedding decorations into your own fall wedding is a great way to warm your guests, body and soul!Read More

20 Ways to Incorporate Autumn Leaves into Your Wedding

Just a couple of days into our autumn theme month, and I’m already absolutely loving these change of season details (which is just as well, because usually the end of summer just makes me sad!). One thing I love to do in wedding design is to add a little motif to the overall look – not a theme as such, just a little something that reflects the overall style and makes for memorable details. There are lots of autumn motifs, but the most obvious is fallen leaves, and since these are a great budget option (as well as a really beautiful one), I thought that’s where I would focus today. I found lots of pretty ideas for incorporating the leaves into your big day – some more obvious (but beautifully rendered) and others creative and unexpected. Pick the ones you love for your autumn celebration!Read More
