Every now and again, I come across a wedding design that blows me away for its originality and forward thinking, and Anlika and Philip‘s wedding was one of these. It combined an original spin on one of my favourite trends, lasercut, incorporating lasercut flowers with the real thing (love). It also used a chic modern palette of navy and olive green, and mixed things up with unexpected floral elements and such a cool motif, salt, that was entirely personal to the couple. With gorgeous proteas and stylish contemporary details, it’s a chic and unique reception that sets trends for the new year. The fab Andre of Vivid Blue was there to take these beautiful pictures.Read More
Top 10 Weddings of 2013 {Forest Boho}
Bohemian-styled weddings have been a huge trend this year, but Nadine and Alan’s was the real deal, a barefoot eco-friendly celebration that started with a forest ceremony and ended late that night with songs around the fire. Decor was woodsy and wonderful, from the mismatched green glass vases and repurposed jam jars to the wooden candle holders and the lasercut signs that welcomed guests to the reception. The awesome Love Made Visible duo captured this one perfectly, documenting the love and joy of the moment in their unobtrusive, documentary styleRead More
Top 10 Weddings of 2013 {Blush Fairytale}
What to do when your favourite flower is out of season? It’s a problem encountered by many peony-loving brides, with this delicate bloom only making its appearance for a few weeks a year. Bride Hestelle found the perfect solution: paper and fabric flowers that had the same lush white petals but lasted forever and contributed a uniquely modern aspect to the wedding. Add a touch of blush, an incredible dress and a fairytale backdrop of twinkly lights to complement the soft autumn light, and you have one of the most magical weddings we’ve ever featured.Read More
Happy Christmas!
Hello lovelies! I’m just stopping in very quickly to wish both you and yours an amazing Christmas holiday today. Whether it’s a religious festival for you or a secular one, I hope it’s a chance to spend time with family and friends, spoil yourself with yummy food, and be spoiled yourself by Santa! I’ll be sweltering in the sunshine this year (no complaints!), although I must admit I love a frosty London Christmas, and it’s bound to snow (which it does whenever I leave the country, you can put money on it). Whichever you’re enjoying, I’ll be raising a glass of something bubbly to you. Thank you for all your love and support throughout the year.

Top 10 Weddings of 2013 {Beach Bliss}
It must have been Fate that brought Vicky and Arri together – she from Argentina and he from South Africa – at a Colorado ski resort. But snow was the last thing on their mind as they celebrated their marriage with an incredible beach celebration at Grootvlei (captured to perfection by Natural Light Photography) that not only combined tradition and heritage from both their countries and cultures, but also showcased their creative talents (he’s an animator and Vicky owns Mocho Loco stationery design). Everything from the blow-me-away original ceremony area to the coral and turquoise reception decor was made by hand. The carnival atmosphere started early with dancing on the beach, and went on long into the night.Read More
Top 10 Weddings of 2013 {Rustic Retro}
A rustic, old-school feeling is what this bride and groom had in mind for their weekend wedding, a relaxed celebration that personified their style. Old burger bar booths added a diner touch, along with custom flags, bunting and printed burlap runners. A range of truly South African touches was added to the neutral and cherry red palette: Wilson’s toffee favours, Lucky Star tins, old signs from petrol stations. Wesley Vorster captured every creative detail, with the fab Verkykerskop venue as a perfect backdrop to the day.Read More
Fairytale Bride #3: The Dress
First confession…
I was never one to dream up my entire wedding as a little girl but I must say that there have always been a few elements of that special day that I have been very sure about…the dress being one. This is because I have always known exactly what I want to feel like on that day – in love for one, but also enchanted, dreamy, beautiful and as if I am living my very own fairytale. Therefore, I’ve always known that it has to be a princess dress as it is the one day in your life where you should most certainly feel like an absolute princess!
Top 10 Weddings of 2013 {Summer Sparkler}
Hello lovelies! Happy Christmas Eve Eve ;) This week and next I am technically on holiday (yay!) enjoying the festive season with my family, but I have plenty of goodness to keep you company, as I run through the Top 10 weddings of 2013. To be honest, it’s impossible to choose these, because every single wedding we feature (in fact, every single wedding ever) has its own unique specialness, but these are the ten wedding that were most loved by you (in views, comments, Facebook likes and pins) as well as those that are particularly fresh and inspiring. The ten weddings with the biggest ‘ooh’ factor, as I always call it. And we’re kicking it off today with a gorgeous modern vineyard celebration from SBB fave Moira West. For this fun-loving couple, a stylish summer wedding at gorgeous Kleinevalleij was the dream, and that dream became a reality along with origami cranes and pinwheels, as well as lots of chevron details and some very sparkly bridesmaid dresses. A grey and yellow candy buffet was a highlight for the sweet-toothed bride, and for favours, each guest was given a lottery ticket, so they could feel just as lucky as the bride and groom!Read More
SouthBound’s Best 2013: Sponsor Showcase
I think this is one of my favourite requests of our sponsor photographers – every year as part of our end-of-year roundup, I ask them to share with me their favourite photo from the past year. Not only does it give us a range of really beautiful pictures and moments to share with you, but it’s such a personal insight into their different styles and philosophies of photography. Each has an interesting technical component, but because this is weddings, it’s the emotional component of the images that seems to really make them memorable not just for the bride and groom, but for those good people behind the lens. Really take a moment to appreciate each one, to notice the emotion on a bride’s face or the beautiful light. Then dream, dream away about your own wedding day. Contact info under each image – if you like one of our sponsor’s styles, drop them an email!
