Today we’re heading out to the beautiful Garden Route to see a wedding created by the considerably talented Marius Barnard of Weddings by Marius. Julianne and Gene’s big day was a colourful affair, inspired by the hues of evening light on the South African fynbos… wow. (Don’t you just love that?) With spectacular flowers (including a floral chandelier above the couple’s weddimg ceremony), nude wood tables with mixed vases and vessels, and hanging cafe lights in a huge white marquee, this is my idea of rustic wedding perfection. Inspiration Board: Chic Antique

Happy Monday lovelies! Before I dive into today’s board, I just wanted to wish the lovely Louise of b.loved a HUGE congrats on her new site and brand – be sure to head over and check it out!
You know, it’s not so long since the vintage trend swept wedding world, but since then things have come a long way as brides and grooms try to find new ways to introduce antique elements and still keep their decor personal and unique. One way to do this is through colour – the first wave of vintage often fell back on neutral palettes, but I think today’s pastel combo has a lovely Victorian feel. I also love how the navy blue sort of anchors the softer colours, and introduces a more grown up aspect. Add a completely swoony old world invitation suite and a chic, one-of-a-kind print wedding dress, and you have the perfect ingredients for a chic antique wedding day!

Brideys, I have such a lovely treat for you today! A few weeks back I spotted the dresses of Canadian label Truvelle and fell in love with their style, especially when I spotted ombre grey lace, glittery feature backs and even a gown that looked like it had been dripped in rose gold glitter. So I was absolutely over the moon when I received an email from the Truvelle team last week, not only sharing their drop dead gorgeous lookbook, but telling me that this exciting label is now available at LOCA Vintage Bridal Lounge in Port Elizabeth. Whimsical Woodland Wedding Inspiration

A while back, my lovely friends (and regular collaborators) photographer Anneli Marinovich and stylist Louise Beukes headed off to a picturesque little corner of the French countryside for the weekend, to create an enchanted woodland-inspired styled shoot, which sounded like the best idea ever to me. And then I saw the results over on Rock My Wedding and I fell in love with its fairytale enchanted forest wedding style, even more than I’d imagined I would. Gold forest creatures, a cake dripping with caramel (and tiny fondant mushrooms), heart shaped macarons, lush roses, moss, a floral chandelier. Each detail is more heart-racingly beautiful and inspiring than the last. So I’m super excited that these talented wedding pros are sharing their shoot on SouthBound Bride today. Pink Wedding Bouquets

We’re continuing our week of Think Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but after rounding up some beeyooodeefool blush dresses yesterday, this afternoon we are all about the flowers. Don’t get me wrong – I love bouquets in a variety of colours, and pink actually goes brilliantly with most of them, but I’ve loved looking for these pink-shades-only bunches. From huge, luscious peonies to smaller, more delicate blooms, each one has something special that makes me go ‘ooh’. Over the last couple of years, I’ve noticed a big trend towards ‘natural’ weddings – ones that brides describe not just as ‘rustic’ but as ‘organic’, and that include shades from nature rather than artificial hues. Maybe it’s part of the eco movement, or maybe it’s a reflection of South Africans’ love of the outdoors. I absolutely love it, and I really love when the relaxed feeling in decor transfers over to a relaxed feeling in the wedding as a whole. Grethe & GR’s wedding is just a perfect example of this – they chose bunches and green garlands of eucalyptus leaves for their decor, muted pastels for their bridesmaids, a family-style feast for their meal, and a big tree as their ceremony backdrop. It’s the kind of long, sunny, food-and-wine-filled afternoon that makes me want to pack up my laptop, grab a picnic blanket and head outside to the open air. Pink & Blush Wedding Dresses

*UPDATED FOR 2020* Afternoon lovelies! As I mentioned yesterday, this week we’re thinking pink for breast cancer awareness, with a pink-themed post every day. Today is all about pink and blush wedding dresses and man alive, they are gorgeous. I mean, dreamy, super feminine, get-me-to-a-dressmaker-right-now-because-I-want-one, Vera Wang, ballerina fantasy GORGEOUS. There are quite a few dresses included here from real South African weddings – this is definitely one trend that we’ve embraced here and I couldn’t be happier. And while there are other colours that are also making a big impact on wedding dresses (cough cough, lilac), I think pink and blush will always have the edge on other shades (other than white, of course). Crazy beautiful. That’s the only way I can think of to describe today’s wedding – in fact, I’m struggling to find words at all, but who needs words when the pictures are this pretty? Aside from the fact that Jess & Steve are basically one of the most attractive couples south of Hollywood, or that their South African girl meets Australian boy in California story is like something out of a romcom, every little detail of this stylish garden soiree just makes me giddy to look at. From the pink peonies and monochrome stripes to the proteas and bridesmaids in mint, each photograph by the supremely talented Lad & Lass brings a new delight (which is why I couldn’t help myself but include a ton of them in this post). And let’s not forget the aisle lined with scripture calligraphed on wooden boards (swoonage), or Jessica’s insanely gorgeous dress (by SBB fave designer and featured bride, Julia Ferrandi). But as usual, what really, really gets me (once I’ve stopped squealing at how much I love every inspiring idea) is the raw emotion that the Lad & Lass team captured here – Steven’s tears as he sees his bride, her radiant joy, the light that seems to dance around them like a blessing. Crazy beautiful. I told you.
