Boho Bridal Accessories from Bo & Luca

I don’t know about you, but whenever I see a bride in a gorgeous chain or jewel headpiece, it stops me in my tracks. They’re so… goddessy. Which should totally be a word, Oxford. But where to find these boho beauties? I was thrilled to discover that one of my favourite labels, Bo & Luca, is just such a place, and with a Cape Town store, I’m sure we’ll be seeing lots more of these lovelies making their way down the aisle in SA this season. So of course I had to share some pretty pictures with you all, because pretty pictures and awesome accessories (and alliteration, apparently) are just my THING.Read More

Sandals for Beach & Boho Brides

A beach or boho bride may ideally be a barefoot bride, but let’s be honest, even the most down-to-earth bridal style probably calls for soles for at least some of the time (pulling thorns out of your feet on the way down the aisle? not a good look). Fortunately, there’s an easy solution: a pair of pretty sandals which will not only look fabulous under your flowy frock, but can be worn again on honeymoon and countless other occasions after the big day (which isn’t something you can say about all bridal footwear). Flat sandals have come such a long way since I was young, and now even the big designers produce stunning slip-slops as part of their collections. That’s not to say you have to spend a fortune though – as you’ll see below, we’ve rounded up a set of 15 gorgeous shoes in a variety of price ranges. The only tough part is choosing a favourite!

Inspiration Board: Gypsy Rose

So you guys, how are you enjoying boho month? I must admit, Candice and I have been having a ball putting these special features together and we have lots more for you over the next couple of weeks! Although I’m sure we’ll be all boho-ed out after that ;) For a while anyway! Today we have another boho inspiration board – this one inspired by a gypsy wedding and no, I don’t mean the big fat reality TV kind. Think antique caravans, mixed textures, berry shades – basically the old school run away with the gypsies style romance. Hope you like it!

Colours: Scarlet, moss green, aubergine, rose & grey

Top row (l-r): Gypsy caravan elopement {Elizabeth Messina/Merryl Brown Events/Flower Wild/Imagine Design + Jamie Nelson Construction/Maryvonne Laparliere/Galvin Painting}; mason chandelier {Mathieu Photography}; scarlet bouquet {Aneta Mak}
Row 2: Fruit/vegetable centrepiece {Claire Dobson Photography/A Savvy Event/Loop Flowers}; boho bride {Katie May}; caravan steps {Elizabeth Messina/Merryl Brown Events/Flower Wild/Imagine Design + Jamie Nelson Construction}
Row 3: Bridesmaids {The Nichols/Bryan Long Flowers & Events}; menu {Anushé Low/B.loved Wedding Styling & Design/Philippa Craddock/The Story House}; table garland {Claire Dobson Photography/A Savvy Event/Loop Flowers}

Boho Aisle Style

One wedding detail that often gets overlooked in styling articles is the ceremony – but as we all know, that’s the most important part of your day! And while the most important part OF that most important part is obviously the words you’ll say and the way you’ll feel and the people who’ll be there, it doesn’t hurt to pay a little attention to planning a beautiful ceremony area that befits your wedding style and where you can create the perfect backdrop to the most romantic moment of your lives. As it happens, boho brides and grooms have been doing ceremony styling particularly well, so I just had to round up 20 of my absolute favourite boho ceremony areas to inspire you this afternoon!Read More

Feather DIY Roundup

Time for some DIY goodness, brideys! And in line with our boho bent this month, I thought it was high time I rounded up some feathery goodness for your weddings. Feathers make a great motif for boho celebrations, and there are so many ways you can include them – plus, I adore the whole gold-dipped feather trend, which is perfect for boho luxe! Of course, make sure you source the feathers responsibly, and remember that you can always use paper instead of real (some of the tutorials below cover paper feathers, and even clay ones, which I love). Let’s go!

20 Boho Wedding Details

Confession: I feel kind of weird writing a post about the elements that will help you put together a bohemian style. Because, after all, the whole point of bohemianism is that anything goes, right? For a truly boho bride, you’re going to really make it up as you go along and just include the things that you love, that are in season, and that are at hand. And that’s awesome. In my view, wedding design should always be about what you love rather than conforming to what you think is expected of you. But let’s be honest, boho has become a ‘look’, and if that’s a look you’re trying to achieve, it’s my job to help you do that. And there are certain ingredients that immediately scream boho – a flower crown, a fishtail braid, perhaps a ’70s style crochet lace dress, a ceremony out in the open, a festival style reception. I still love all of those things (especially the flower crowns), but for today’s roundup, I wanted to focus on the less obvious details that you could include in your wedding styling that would still help to create a boho vibe. There are some seriously cool little ideas here, so dive in, and see what takes your fancy!Read More

20 Beautiful Boho Wedding Dresses

Bacall by Gibson Bespoke (Image: KirstyLyn Jameson of KLJ Photography)

We’re kicking off our special boho month on SBB with a look at boho wedding gowns. And not just any gowns, these ones all come from the brilliance of online shopping that is Etsy, and some of its talented sellers and boutique designers. I know buying gowns online can be a risk, but I think the boho style particularly lends itself to it, since the cut is usually a little looser, the style a little more flowing than your average ballgown. Plus, while there are some fab boho labels available, there’s definitely less choice available on a local level for this style of bride. Buy why feel limited when there are so many amazing options online? I’ve rounded up just 20 of my favourites, but be sure to click through and see more from each of these Etsy stores.Read More

Inspiration Board: Blackberry Boho

Morning lovely ones! It’s the start of a new month, and this time, Candice and I thought we would try something different and take a page out of the magazine playbook by having a bit of a theme for our features, and the one we’ve chosen is Boho. That’s not to say that everything we feature in March will be boho (so don’t despair, glamour brides, there’s something for everyone!) but we will be featuring lots of fab bohemian, boho luxe and boho rustic content during the month. So I thought I’d kick things off with a boho board today! You probably know by now how much I love incorporating natural elements like fruit into wedding design, so I was totally inspired a while back when I saw this flower crown that also included berries – SO pretty! That’s where this board started, and it’s ended up somewhere really pretty I think, with tones of blush, raspberry and blackberry against soft white. This is boho at its most romantic – I just want to dive right in.

Colours: Blush pink, garnet, mahogany, green & white

Top row (l-r): Flower crown with berries {Sonya Khegay/Ajur Wedding/Latte decor/Olga Chursina}; cake with berries {Eyelet Images/The Ruffle Effect/Elise Cakes}; bridesmaids {Jen Huang/Magnolia Rouge/Fleuriste}
Row 2: Bouquet {Mint Photography/Lindsey Zamora/Without Wax Katy}; blackberry cocktails {Anastasiya Belik Photography/Peony Art Decoration Studio}; rustic handdrawn invitation {Christie Graham Photography/The Written Word Calligraphy}
Row 3: Tablescape {Onelove Photography/WINK! Weddings/Seed Floral}; ceremony arch {Linda Chaja/Magnolia Event Design/NLC Productions}; red cocktail {Summer Street Photography/Whim Events}

Urban Bohemian Styled Couple Shoot by Page & Holmes

Who says you can’t find the peace and serenity of the countryside in the heart of the city? I’m over the moon about the way today’s super romantic couple shoot combines urban – even industrial-style – locations with soft bohemian style, and of course, a healthy dose of love and romance! Jonty and Melissa are an absolutely adorable couple – they’ve been married since 2012 but decided to dress up again for a couple shoot, and drafted in the talented team at Page & Holmes to capture it on film. There’s an element of styled shoot here too, with Melissa wearing a gorgeous gown from White Lilly Bridal, and a spectacular fynbos floral crown on her pretty head. Combined with Jonty’s sharp suit, it’s a great look for their pictures – and for a wedding!Read More

Bo & Luca: Now in South Africa

I’ve been doing this wedding stuff for a while now, and there are a few days when I feel like I’ve seen it all. That’s why having Candice on the SBB team has been so refreshing, because she’s like my own awesome-o-mometer. I always know if I send her something and she comes back all “OMG I love it!” that I’ve found something special, and that makes me excitable all over again. Well, when I sent Candice a link to Bo & Luca, an Australian bridal brand that has just launched in South Africa, there was a lot of squealing going on. From both of us. Because, hello gorgeous dresses! I’m SO thrilled to see labels like this appearing on the SA scene – labels that take a fresh look at bridalwear for more fashioney or relaxed, boho brides, and I can’t WAIT to visit Bo & Luca‘s new Cape Town store in person. Let’s take a look, shall we?Read More
