Gift Guide: Your Bridesmaids

010-K&C Breezy Rustic Wedding by Leandri Kers

We’re continuing our gift guides with a wedding twist this afternoon, and today we have some gorgeous little items for those most special of ladies, the bridesmaids. Because there’s nothing quite like your besties, is there? And of course, the holidays are a great time to show your appreciation, not just for everything they are and all your years of friendship, but for the fact that let’s be honest, it has probably been all about you in the run-up to your wedding. These are the women who’ve been helping you with DIYs or listened to you endlessly nattering away about colour palettes, or created Pinterest boards just for you or Whatsapped you pics of everything they see that they think would be just perfect for your wedding vision. They’re the ones who’ll be feeding you Rescue Remedy on the big day, and who will be keeping the dancefloor pumping all night long. Basically, they deserve a lovely present, so I’ve rounded up some darling options, and affordable ones at that! Enjoy. Emerald, Copper & Burgundy Wedding Inspiration

Happy December, lovelies! After a few days away working on another project, I’m back, and I have some gorgeous inspiration to share with you this month before we start dipping back into our annual ‘best of’ series. We’re kicking the advent countdown off today with a styled shoot that I have been looking forward to sharing with you for a while, but the colours were so Christmassy that I just had to wait until today. First off, the palette is amazing – rich emerald and burgundy have that beautiful mixture of warmth and depth, but it’s when copper is added to the mix that some modern magic really happens! Add in some beautiful bridesmaid gowns from SBB Directory member Jacoba Clothing. And don’t even get me started on the florals, because OMG they are amazing! Whether you’re planning a Christmas wedding, a holiday table, or just a wedding that makes great use of beautiful colours and flowers (at any time of year, but especially in winter, when jewel tones are particularly appropriate), then this is your palette! Thanks so much to photographer Nadia Basson and her team for bringing us this loveliness today.

For those of you who’ve just tied the knot, the festive season is a really fun time to check in with family and friends and thank them for their love and support – maybe share a few wedding photographs or double up with a thank you card in the envelope. Or maybe you’ve yet to marry, but as an engaged couple, you’re dying to take some holiday snaps and send your first card together. Sure it’s cheesy, but so fun! Well, as it turns out, the makers at Etsy have come up with some seriously adorable ways to say “Merry Christmas from US” – and I’ve rounded up 20 of my favourites!

Inspiration Board: Partridge in a Pear Tree

Hello lovely ones! Every year when Christmas comes around, I take a peek into my archive for festive posts and I’m always reminded of a little board I did way back in 2010 (how have I been doing this more than five years already?). I love the use of fruit in wedding design, and the whole idea of frosted pears and misty mornings just appeals to me, but with the bird wedding theme long having come and gone, I thought it could use a little shake up and renovation. This is the first time I’ve made over one of my own boards, and it was fun! Mix in the current trends for lots of gorgeous greenery in both table arrangements and bouquets, mismatched bridesmaids in grey, a groom in tweed, and those beautiful pears, and you have a Christmas wedding that is definitely not too themey and would work beautifully at any time of year. What do you think?

Top row (l-r): Partridge in a Pear Tree rug; Christmas tags {K is for Calligraphy}; bride in garden {Cameron Ingalls}
Row 2: Tweed groom {Lev Kuperman/Hudson Valley Events/J. Crew}; frosted pears {Jeanna Hayes/WhipperBerry Blog}; bird Christmas tree ornament {Paloma’s Nest}
Row 3: Cake with pear decoration {Caroline Joy/Mayhar Design/Blue Note Bakery}; bridesmaids with greenery bouquets {When He Found Her}; table decor with pears {Lexi Vornberg/Marti’s Floral Designs}

Gift Guide: Honeymooners

Time for another holiday gift guide, and this is a special twist on gifts for couples and newlyweds. With so many couples now waiting a few months before taking a proper honeymoon, you have an extra chance to put together the perfect gift to get them excited about their trip, or just to make things more convenient when they get there. And guess what? There are lots of adorable his ‘n hers, holiday-worthy finds out there – and at a Christmas-friendly price point. Which means that these gifts double as the perfect little splurge for yourself, if you’re a honeymooner-to-be! Gift Guide: Groomsmen

As I mentioned, I am feeling WAY more Christmassy as December creeps on (or maybe it’s just that it’s been rainy and dark for days in Durban and it feels more Northern Hemispher-ey than usual). But I must admit I am WAY behind on Christmas shopping. If you’re anything like me, you’ll need some ideas, and that’s why I’ve put together another gift guide – this time it’s for the boys. Each of these would be perfect for a groomsman – or as a stocking filler or smaller gift for the hubs. And as always, keep an eye out for some of our fab South African makers in amongst my picks! Inspiration Board: Marsala Christmas

Okay okay, I said I’d never do another Marsala inspiration board, but as we bid farewell to 2015’s colour of the year and welcome a seriously exciting new pair (more on that in January), I thought I’d look back on it just one last time, since it does, after all, offer a fresh spin on Christmas red. I haven’t yet decided what my holiday table will look like, but I must admit I’m tempted by this deep shade of berry combined with natural elements like pinecones and cranberries (ridiculous in a South African summer of course, but who cares). And also, I absolutely must move into that snowy Marsala house RIGHT NOW. (Or at least get myself a print of it in all its glory from artist Kristine Patti.) All in all, I think a Marsala Christmas would be a great way to say goodbye to the year (and the colour) that was – don’t you agree?

Colours: Marsala, white, emerald, wood

Top row (l-r): Bride & groom {Margherita Calati/Il Giorno che Vorrei}; table with candles {Ashley Cook Photography/Dream Design}; cranberry cocktail {Sacramento Street}
Row 2: Bridesmaids {Troy Grover Photographers/Michelle McGregor}; earrings {Endora Jewellery/Etsy}; cranberry escort cards {David Stark/Susan Montagna}
Row 3: Christmas house {Kristine Patti}; chocolate berry cake {Rebecca Hollis/Romancing the Stone}; Marsala wreath {Marigold’s Designs/Etsy}; place setting {Chantall Marshall Photography/Kadou}

CYBER WEEKEND SPECIAL Gift Guide: His ‘n Hers Timepieces

Hello friends! I’m stopping in on a Sunday just to give you some time-sensitive (ha ha) news of the Christmas gift variety. Watches are always a wonderful gift for the man or woman in your life – they’re personal in the sense that they wear them every day, and feel like a real spoil to receive as a gift. But since I know that wedding planning can get expensive, I really sat up when I heard that Ernest Jones were running a 50% sale for Cyber Weekend, which included some gorgeous timepieces from brands like Gucci and Michael Kors. I’ve picked some of my favourites, but you’ll need to get in quick, as they’re selling fast! Gift Guide: Your Wedding Planner

Santa’s comiiiiiiiiing! Yep, it’s true, Christmas is on its merry way, and as well as all things family and food, that means it’s time to start thinking about presents. Finding the perfect thing for my favourite people is something I look forward to all year, and so this year I’m indulging my love for all things gifty with a series of festive guides… with a bit of a wedding twist of course! To kick things off, I thought I would round up some lovely ideas for one of those people who very often start the year as a stranger and end it feeling like you’ve known them all your lives. I’m talking about your wedding planner. And of course there’s no obligation to buy him or her anything – whether it’s over the holiday season or even after the wedding (when all of these gifts would be totally appropriate too!), but sometimes that bond goes beyond the professional – they’ve calmed you down through your ridiculous late night “will the napkins match?” panics, worked out a table plan that has kept old family feuds from kicking off, and best of all, kept you sane, so you can enjoy your wedding planning and this special time with your fiancĂ©. A good planner is basically your best friend, and the holidays are a great time to make them feel appreciated. So! Here are 10 ways I found on Etsy to do just that. Ten Christmas Decor Items You Can Use At Your Wedding

Hello lovelies! Tomorrow we officially kick off our end of year blog schedule, but for this morning we’re going all Christmassy in honour of the fact that I’ll be tree trimming all day. I know that budget is a constraint for so many brides, and I can’t help but think about weddings when I see some of the decorations that are available these days – they’re definitely not of the cheese-tastic Santa’s grotto variety! With most of them being on sale at huge discounts from Boxing Day onwards, I got to thinking about how this was a good time for 2014 brides to stock up on some of their decor items in a brilliant stroke of forward planning. Some of these are more obvious, some require some creative thinking, but all of them will enhance your wedding, which doesn’t necessarily need to have a winter or a Christmas theme. Here are my Top 10 finds to look out for.
