We’re back to real weddings this week, and today’s is a blinder – although of course we wouldn’t expect anything less from the Wedding Concepts team! They had an unusual challenge this time – to turn the historic cellar venue of Morgenhof into a contemporary, formal space using lush, modern colours. They also had to mix two cultures (Alicia from the US and Winston from Liberia) and create a space where all the couple’s guests could feel at home. I think they more than pulled it off, as evidenced by the huge smiles on Winston and Alicia’s faces! I’m also absolutely thrilled that I finally get to feature the work of photography team Zarazoo, who I’ve been a fan of for aaaaages. Their style always makes me homesick, since they capture the big sky we are lucky enough to have in Africa (as well as the fun and personalities of the people they shoot). In fact, so much about this particular wedding reminds me why I love my home continent – it just seems to radiate with the glow of the warm earth, the light of the sun and the love of family and friends. I hope you love it as much as I do.
The Wedding Concepts team sent over some background for us:
This is one wedding we won’t soon forget – an energetic couple with a contagious zest for life – we loved every minute! Alicia and Winston – living in Washington DC – wanted not only their joy for life but also their joining of American and Liberian cultures reflected in the design and style of their Winelands wedding. With classic undertones the historic Morgenhof Wine Estate was transformed into three sophisticated, contemporary spaces for the celebration. The estate’s historic barn was converted into a sacral setting for their ceremony, followed by pre-drinks in the scenic rose garden. After this, the guests were ready for yet another surprise, and no effort was spared when designing an elegantly modern dinner setting in the historic Maturation Cellar!
Alicia had always been certain about including her favourite colour (orange) together with chocolate brown accents in the design (“Modern please!”). Some highlights were indigenous strelitzias, softly lit orange wall panels, a four-tier striped chocolate wedding cake, a menu with delicate South African undertones and of course a DJ who kept everyone on the dancefloor until almost sunrise.
The 120 well-heeled and well-travelled international guests all agreed with the couple and the mother of bride, who played a vital role in the planning: “We can only reiterate our thanks to you and the Wedding Concepts team for the most extraordinary wedding event, we – as well as our guests – cannot stop talking about and we are all high on the memories of the details of the day. It was a stunning, magical event which will live on in our memories always.” It was a unique challenge to create a contemporary look with modern colours in a historic cellar. However, the end result was an absolute sensation!
Big thanks to the Wedding Concepts team for sending this one over! And an even bigger congratulations to the gorgeous couple!
