Top 10 Weddings of 2013 {Rustic Retro}

A rustic, old-school feeling is what this bride and groom had in mind for their weekend wedding, a relaxed celebration that personified their style. Old burger bar booths added a diner touch, along with custom flags, bunting and printed burlap runners. A range of truly South African touches was added to the neutral and cherry red palette: Wilson’s toffee favours, Lucky Star tins, old signs from petrol stations. Wesley Vorster captured every creative detail, with the fab Verkykerskop venue as a perfect backdrop to the day.Read More

Top 10 Weddings of 2013 {Summer Sparkler}

Hello lovelies! Happy Christmas Eve Eve ;) This week and next I am technically on holiday (yay!) enjoying the festive season with my family, but I have plenty of goodness to keep you company, as I run through the Top 10 weddings of 2013. To be honest, it’s impossible to choose these, because every single wedding we feature (in fact, every single wedding ever) has its own unique specialness, but these are the ten wedding that were most loved by you (in views, comments, Facebook likes and pins) as well as those that are particularly fresh and inspiring. The ten weddings with the biggest ‘ooh’ factor, as I always call it. And we’re kicking it off today with a gorgeous modern vineyard celebration from SBB fave Moira West. For this fun-loving couple, a stylish summer wedding at gorgeous Kleinevalleij was the dream, and that dream became a reality along with origami cranes and pinwheels, as well as lots of chevron details and some very sparkly bridesmaid dresses. A grey and yellow candy buffet was a highlight for the sweet-toothed bride, and for favours, each guest was given a lottery ticket, so they could feel just as lucky as the bride and groom!Read More

Real Wedding at Welgemeend {Jade & George}

Happy Friday, lovelies! And not just any Friday, but the last one at work for many of you, as the holiday season gets into gear. We’re having a bit of a holiday on SBB from next week too – there’s a full line-up of retrospective 2013 loveliness, but today is the last new real wedding we’ll feature for this year. And I can’t think of a better note to go out on, because Jade and George’s wedding is so full love and exuberance, slick suits, a beautiful custom made necklace and the cutest little red getaway car. They submitted it themselves, and I couldn’t resist sharing this stylish couple’s pics with you – they’re guaranteed to make you smile! Mads Norgaard, who just happens to be a friend of bride and groom, took these fab pictures.Read More

Real Wedding at Inkungu Lodge {Kylie & Patrick}

Hello friends! It’s that bittersweet time of the year, when everything seems to be winding down, but there’s still the holidays and celebrations to look forward to. I always feel slightly depressed in December that the year has flown by so fast, and even more so today as it’s my last day in Cape Town. I have no idea where the time went, I seem to have only seen a tiny portion of the people I was hoping to! Anyway, I am ending it off in style, with a mini-shoot out in the winelands – watch this space! Here on the blog, we’re also winding down through our last couple of new real weddings of the year, and I have been saving this one for you, because it is FAB. First, it’s shot by the gorgeous Jacki Bruniquel, who is awesome, but then you find that it’s full of bright orange folded paper loveliness (seriously, the bouquets, LOVE) and happiness and love (not to mention some rainy day blessings) and you can’t help but fall in love with it. None of the bitter, all of the sweet. Enjoy!Read More

Real Wedding at Kliplapa {Lauren & Michael}

You guys… Yesterday was a good news/bad news kinda day. Good news! You’re in Cape Town! Bad news… someone’s driven into your hire car. Good news! You get to see a friend for lunch! Bad news… there’s no parking. Good news! It’s time to visit some wedding creatives in their uber cool new office space! Bad news… there’s no parking (seriously Capetonians, whaddup?). Anyway, we’re starting today off on the right note, with this lovely wedding from Shireen Louw, who just so happens to be one of the sweetest people to work with as well as being a fab photographer. Lauren and Michael clearly have a very well-developed sense of fun, as their wedding is full of spontaneity and laughter, and cute props. Not to mention proteas and antique candelabras – fusing two of the biggest trends at the moment. As I say, it’s a happy way to start the day – enjoy!Read More

Real Wedding at Lourensford {Tessa & Nick}

Do I ever have a pretty wedding to share with you today! It had me at hello. Hello breathtaking and unusual bridal gown, hello soft lavender bridesmaids’ pleats, hello muted pastel blooms against grey tablecloths and rustic wooden boards at the reception, hello bang on trend calligraphy details, hello lacy cake. So you won’t be surprised to know that some of South Africa’s finest service providers are involved, including photographer Jani B., Wedding Concepts, Okasie and Roxanne Floquet (who just happened to be one of the bridesmaids!). And of course I was delighted to hear that SBB was one of bride Tessa’s favourite blogs – what can I say, the girl’s got taste ;) Pour yourself a cup of your favourite something hot, settle in and enjoy.Read More

Real Wedding at Langkloof {Anchen & Endri}

All love stories are beautiful, but some have all the hallmarks of a fairytale. A serendipitous meeting, a few heavenly signs… and of course, a happy ending. So it is with today’s couple, Anchen and Endri. They have a very cute ‘how we met’ story (see below), and Anchen also told me how light has become a symbol for them in their relationship. Wouldn’t you know it, but there was light streaming in through the windows of the chapel as they got married (captured beautifully by the fab Veronique Mills Photography!). Added to the bright corals and other summer colours of this gorgeous wedding, it’s a celebration of joy and love and colour. But of course, the best light is the glow of happiness on the happy couple’s faces. Now THAT’s how you know it’s a fairytale.Read More

Real Wedding at Diamant Estate {Suzanne & Nick}

Hello lovelies! I am rushing to catch a plane to Cape Town as I write this, so no big spiel from me this morning. Suffice just to say that this is a really gorgeous wedding! And that the pics from Illuminate Photography certainly speak for themselves, as do the happy faces of bride, groom, bridesmaids, guests… So much prettiness and happiness and pastel goodness in one place! Enjoy :)Read More

Real Wedding at Allesverloren {Amanda & Stephen}

What an exciting day it is when I get to feature a new photographer, but today is especially exciting, because the lovely Tamryn Henn of i.am.tamryn is no stranger to SBB. In fact, I’ve known Tamryn ever since she was a SouthBound Bride herself! Now she’s a fully-fledged photographer, and I’m absolutely thrilled to be featuring one of her weddings. Even more so because it is gorgeous: proteas, lace bridesmaid dresses, adorable little people in the wedding party, a stunning wedding dress and one of my favourite ceremony areas ever. Wait till you see it! So much loveliness to kick off your Tuesday. And look out for the super romantic moment when the groom sings his bride a song he wrote just for her! Sigh…Read More

Real Wedding at Waverley Hills {Anneke & Dawie}

Time for another beautiful real wedding, folks. And even though the sun has (finally) come out to play in SA, this is a winter wedding through and through. What I love most about it is how the bride and groom tried to make sure that there was a cosy contrast between the chilly outdoors and the warmth inside – kind of a ‘weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful’ vibe. With bright and cheerful shades of pink and protea everywhere, and lots of lovely handmade craft details, the glow doesn’t just come from the Waverley Hills fireside, but from the love of friends and family, as they gathered to craft and then enjoy this happy day. Coba Engelbrecht was there to document every hand-warming heart-melting moment.Read More
