It’s been a while since I published this post, offering ten gorgeous inspirations for dessert tables and linking them up to SBB colour boards. And in that time, I’ve seen dessert tables evolve, from being highly stylised to maybe just a little bit more relaxed, from being almost entirely cake and candy-based, to having a larger variety of sweet treats, and of course to include dessert table alternatives like pies, cookies or even brunch. But one thing has remained the same – brides love ’em. And it’s no wonder – a candy buffet or dessert table offers a fun, interactive dessert experience for your guests AND it’s a piece of reception decor all on its own, which reinforces your theme or colours and can spark a lot of creativity. What guest doesn’t like seeing a little nook dedicated specifically to sugar, especially when it’s temptingly laid-out. So I thought it was about time I shared some of my new favourite dessert tables, and as before, linked them up with some of our very own inspiration boards to give you a sense of what sort of look and feel each table might suit.

The addition of a floral arch turns a nice feature into a spectacular one – perfect for all you garden wedding and blush-loving brides out there! I’ve paired it with our perennially popular Kraft & Blush inspiration board.
You all will know by now that geometrics are very much having their day in both wedding and general design at the moment. I feel like I can’t look anywhere without seeing some geometric-inspired design, but as always, it’s a look that’s really grown on me. Of all the shapes, hexagons are emerging as the front runners, and I am loving them! Hexagon cakes aren’t a new thing, but we’re definitely seeing more of them now, along with hexagon (and sometimes heptagon or pentagon)-shaped stationery and design elements, from backdrops to menus to table numbers to cake toppers. What I think works particularly well about hexagons is that when fitted together, they have the honeycomb effect, so they’re a stylish evolution of an earlier wedding design trend. A few years ago, when baby’s breath first became popular again, I remember thinking that this might mean that some other low-cost fillers may also have their day in the sun, but I must admit, that I never would have predicted ferns as the next big thing in weddings. Not to the same degree, of course, but there’s no doubt that these lovely bits of greenery have been enjoying a very stylish turn on the worldwide bridal stage of late. That’s partly to do with how perfectly they fit in with the botanical trend, partly to do with the move towards greenery and garlands (see our roundup of that here), and a lot to do with the fact that they’re really pretty and versatile (and of course, relatively lower cost). It’s time to showcase a new trend, folks, and I have to say, I have been looking forward to bringing this one your way for a few months now. Of course, wreaths themselves are nothing new in wedding decor (see our archive post on them here) and hair garlands are a huge and lasting trend among stylish, free-spirited brides. But with the move towards greenery like eucalyptus, fern (HUGE right now) and olive branch, the kind of garlands I am talking about are those made of simple twines of greenery or even herbs, hanging simply from a ceiling or against a wall, or worked into something more intricate like a chandelier or fun like an escort card display. I know it’s a cliche for a wedding blogger to say they’re obsessed with details, but it happens to be 100% true – the little touches and clever nuances are what really floats my boat when it comes to wedding design. And I think one of the best places to show your personality or complement your theme or motif is in the way you present your escort cards/table plan. Hideyho, lovelies – we’re taking ourselves off into the long weekend with the latest in our series of beautiful tablescapes broken down into their easy-to-replicate components. So far, we’ve looked at both rustic and beach tables, but today is a little more themey, as we tackle some of the prettiest travel-themed weddings in town. Now I know I talk about travel themes a lot, but it’s such a popular way of expressing a love story – whether you’re a couple who have wanderlust, or you’re from different places, or you’re having a destination wedding, or have travelled a lot as part of a long-distance relationship. So I know you guys are always looking for fresh ideas in this department (see all our travel wedding posts here), whether it’s a full-on theme for you, or just a little touch. I started to notice that most of the ideas I saw (and featured) were one-offs, like escort cards and table plans, or favours. So I got to wondering, what’s a great way of decorating a travel-themed wedding table? Better yet, what are my top 10? A LOT of the tables I looked at were vintagey, but I’ve tried to bring together a mix of styles and ideas that you can mix and match or adapt to suit your own particular style. Last month, I identified pretty table runners as a trend we’ll be seeing lots of in the coming season. While many of these will be lace for vintage-loving brides, we’re also seeing some gorgeous sparkly sequin runners coming through (and not just runners, full sequin tablecloths, in all their glittery glory!). You’d think this would all be a bit much, but I have to say, each time I see one of these tables, it makes my magpie heart do a little hop, skip and a jump. And why not? It’s your wedding! Even your tables should get to wear their party dresses, right? So today I’ve rounded up some of my favourite sequin runners, as well as a few suggestions for bringing a bit of sparkle to the table if you don’t want to go the whole hog.

As before, I have broken each one down into its key components and shared my suggestions for recreating the look, including tips for budget and DIY brides. Each of these tables is different and would of course suit a different kind of beach reception (or can be adapted for a non-beach reception, if you take out some of the seaside elements like shells), but the main thing to notice is how they are built up layer by layer. That way, you can go out in search of your own lovely finds and bargains, and create your own perfect wedding table.
