3 Gorgeous Summer Bridal Looks from the Catwalk with Sketch & M

Wedding season is upon us again, and while almost all of you summer brides will have your dresses, décor and details down, one thing you may still be undecided on is your hair and makeup aka “your LOOK”. And we get it: you want to look fresh and fabulous and on-trend, but also timeless and classic and most importantly, still like yourself. It’s enough to give a bride sleepless nights (bags under the eyes? NOT cute). So we’ve asked one of our favourite local hair and makeup geniuses to pop by today and share her expertise – super excited to introduce the very lovely Marisa of Sketch & M! Marisa loves creating natural bridal makeup looks – flawless, glowing complexion, earthy eyeshadow shades, bold lashes and neutral lips – but she also appreciates brides that are a little more experimental. Today she’s showing how some of those high fashion catwalk looks can be beautifully interpreted for modern brides, and sharing some images of her at work, captured by Leanne Love Photography. Take it away, Marisa!

Mozambique DIY Beach Wedding by Maryke Albertyn

Where do I even start with this wedding? A beachy ceremony on the white sand shores of Mozambique, a bride who arrived on horseback, bridesmaids carrying actual pineapples as bouquets, paper plane confetti, a DIY rustic chic reception, and a super romantic day-after couple shoot. I mean, seriously. How. cool. is. that! It’s basically tropical wedding perfection right here in beautiful southern Africa. Soné and Barry are the sweetest couple you can imagine, and their celebration is filled with so much happiness and love, as well as all those delicious details. The crowning glory is Maryke Albertyn‘s wonderful pictures, which I loved so much I included approximately a million of them. Ok, not a million, but enough to dive in and lose yourself in – so let’s do just that, shall we? ;)

Inspiration Board: Summer Citrus

OMG seriously, how is October rushing past so fast, dammit? I have so much more bright and colourful inspiration to share before the month is out, and it’s high time we did some palette play. I’ve always had a bit of a fascination with citrus as a wedding element, and I’ve made a few boards using oranges and lemons before, but for today’s board it is citrus turned up to LOUD. Lemon, orange, tangerine, grapefruit acid brights. And yet, with a backdrop of soft blue and romantic details, it still manages to be elegant. This might be my fave summer board ever!

Top row (l-r): Place setting (Michael Radford Photography/Tinge) | Centrepiece (Tony Gigov/Lovely Weddings/A Very Beloved Wedding/Evelyn Kühr) | Citrus invitation suite (Melissa Jill Photography/Copper + Cotton/Lola Lee Invitations)

Radiant Midlands Wedding at Orchards by Bright Girl Photography

Just when I think I’ve seen my share of elegant Midlands weddings, I get to share this gem with you and my heart does its little happy dance once more. Not only is Anthea and Brendan’s wedding full of pretty- hanging greenery, garlands on the table (with blues and burnt oranges making for the most gorgeous bright combo with that green), amazing bridesmaid dresses in signature navy blue, touches of rustic wood (right down to the adorbs wood ring ‘pillow’), and beautiful stationery – but it also has one of my fave photographers working her magic behind the lens. Eileen of BrightGirl Photography always seems to capture that newlywed glow, the radiance behind the pretty, and this stylish soiree is no exception. So let’s sink our little teeth into it, shall we?

Spring Garden Engagement Shoot

From winter to spring, we’re changing seasons from this morning’s winter wedding to this sweet e-shoot that takes place in the gardens of Val de Vie. Candice and Greg chose this locale for a relaxed stroll together and brought along a rather fabulous bouquet. And while it’s all about the love first and foremost, you KNOW I am also going to mention the styling because I do love a great choice of e-sesh outfit for the bride-and-groom-to-be! This is spring perfection – Candice in a classic Little White Dress with sequin jacket, and Greg in pastel trousers. Classic and preppy, but with just the right amount of interest to look great on camera. And look great they do, in these truly lovely pics by Claire Thomson!

Cozy Country Wedding in Kaapsehoop by Disco Road Photography

I’ve heard of some pretty unusual proposals, but popping the question on a squash court is a new one for me. And yet, today’s groom, Coenraad, managed to make it into the most romantic thing ever (no wonder Anneen said yes!). Their wedding followed suit… A destination celebration in the little town of Kaapsehoop, a cozy country inn for a venue, forest greens and wood textures complemented by amber bottles and striped linens on the tables, white naked cakes, gorgeous winter floral bridesmaid separates and groomsmen in green ties. Oh, and speaking of attire, Anneen’s Anna Georgina gown is an absolute beauty, only a little less radiant that the bride herself and her happy groom, as they prove the newlywed glow is oh-so-real! This is the first time we’ve featured Disco Road Photography with these lovely pics – and hopefully not the last!

Colourful Paper Flower Wedding Inspiration

Last week we showcased the first part of this gorgeous shoot and today we’re revisiting it for part 2 and a second dose of colour – love! Bring me all the colour! This time, instead of lush real blooms, the focus is on lush paper blooms! And these aren’t the kind you made in pre-school, oh no – this is paper flowers on a whole new level thanks to Luna Artistry. And while I love the real thing, colour loving brides can get an extra punch from the bright hues available outside the natural world, along with fantastical shapes and whimsical floral creations that are oh so lovely! Once again, the pics and styling come from the talented Hello Love Photography – we love having Dominique as part of our circle of wedding pros!

Boho Winter Wedding at Cranford Country Lodge by Andy & Szerdi Photography

A woodsy wedding in the middle of the beautiful, serene Natal Midlands… when it comes to winter weddings in South Africa, it doesn’t get much more romantic than this right here. And when it’s overflowing with greenery and touches of rustic gold (gold apples, I love!), I can’t help but love it even more. Kate and Graham picked one of SBB’s fave venues, the gorgeous Cranford Country Lodge, as the backdrop to their celebration – from the adorable little chapel to the cozy reception hall, to the forest where they took their fairytale couple pics, it’s perfection, and it meshes so well with the couple’s boho style. Andy & Szerdi were on the scene and took these lovely pics – so excited to finally get to share this beautiful day with you!
