20 Wedding Dresses for a Fine Art Bride

Ophelia Gown by Hannah Tikkanen (Image: Simply Sweet Photography by Nomo Akisawa)

This morning we’re focusing on one of my favourite elements of a fine art wedding – the dreamiest gowns you can imagine! Because of course, you want to look like a masterpiece on your wedding day! So what IS a wedding dress for a fine art bride, exactly? Well, it’s less a specific look than a feeling: ethereal, hand crafted, unique, with beautiful fabrics and intricate details. It’s definitely not your standard wedding salon ivory ballgown, and often it isn’t white or ivory at all – colour is definitely part of the equation. Above all, a fine art dress photographs beautifully, which is another reason why you’ll often see dreamy rivers of tulle in fine art inspiration shoots. But where to find these one-off beauties? Well, there are some local designers who lean in this direction, but you could also take the leap and look to the artisan dressmakers on Etsy, which is what I have rounded up here today. Get ready for full scale swoonage. This might be our prettiest dress roundup EVER. Links in bold denote affiliate links. Geode & Marble Escorts & Place Cards

Custom Agate, Quartz, or Tile Place Card by Seniman Calligraphy

Haven’t you guys been loving the agate slice place cards and marble escort cards that have been ALL OVER styled shoots for the past year? They are so fabulous. They kind of appeal to my inner kid who wants to go trawling through the semi precious stones in a scratch patch. And the first time I saw these I assumed they were only for the actual richie rich, but it turns out that they are on a par with many other escort options, and they definitely make a statement! Plus, they double as a favour, since guests will love taking them home as a keepsake. Anyway, so they rock. (Ha – see what I did there?) And as always, I’ve done all the research for you and pulled 20 fab options from Etsy. And for those on a budget, I’ve even included a few faux marble paper options which would make a gorgeous addition to any table! Links in bold denote affiliate links. Geodes, minerals and marble – they’re all over the place in wedding world! And there’s no place I love to see these motifs more than in invitations and paperware. There are lots of fabulous options on Etsy, many of them printable, so I’ve rounded up 20 of my favourites right here! Links in bold denote affiliate links. Green Gem Engagement Rings

Josephine Art Deco Old European Cut Diamond and Emerald Engagement Ring by Victor Barbone Jewelry

I’ve got to tell you, I am LOVING this whole trend of alternative engagement rings. I mean, don’t get me wrong, diamonds are gorgeous, but then again, so are the many alternative stones that you can use. I am such a jewellery girl myself, and seeing what the options are once a bride opens up to something different has me in full-scale “ooh, I want that!” mode. Take this collection from Etsy, for example. Green stones aren’t an automatic choice for an engagement, sure. And when I think green stones, I only really think emerald (which I love). But tsavorite, sapphire, moissanite, peridot… it’s a whole ‘nother world. From platinum to rose gold to yellow, the options are kind of endless, and you’re sure to fall in love with at least one of them – I know I did! (Links in bold denote affiliate links. Greenery Wedding Invitations

Printable Greenery Wedding Invitation Suite by The Brumby Nest

Our theme this month is greenery, with a special reference towards Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2017, also called Greenery. And of all Greenery wedding details I’ve seen so far (apart from actual greenery, obvs) I think the prettiest use of this colour has been in stationery. I mean, it’s such a bright, fresh green that it really catches the eye and looks amazing against both a crisp white and a rustic Kraft background, whether paired with a traditional or modern font, and of course, with plenty of pretty greenery illustration. So I’ve been squirreling my favourites away to share with you for a few months now, and whether you’re using this colour in your wedding design or just want to add a touch of natural, minimalist style to your stationery, I think you’ll fall in love with these paper pretties, all created by the makers at Etsy.

20 Fairytale Princess Wedding Gowns

Jordan Lined Tulle Bridal Skirt by Rebecca Schoneveld

Since this is the month of fairytale inspiration on SBB, I couldn’t let it go by without talking ballgowns! Because when you think of a princess bride, the classic ballgown silhouette is immediately what comes to mind. And yes, some of you might think this is a bit tooooo much dress for you (although hell, if not on your wedding day, when?) but many brides who were initially considering something simpler have ended up with a ‘meringue’ because they were seduced by the magic gorgeous-making powers of this silhouette. With their fitted bodice, flared waistline and full skirt, they’re incredibly flattering to most body types. Ready to be a princess bride yourself? We’ve rounded up 20 of the loveliest Etsy gowns to inspire you!¬† Links in bold denote affiliate links. The cost to you remains the same, but SBB may receive a commission for any sales made.

Fairytale Bridal Crowns & Tiaras from Eden Luxe Bridal

Aurora Rose Gold Tiara

I remember when I was growing up in the ’90s, tiaras were very much a staple of the bridal accessory arsenal, but for a while there, they took a back seat to flower crowns and a multitude of incredible veil and hairpiece options. Perhaps it’s a delayed reaction to the Will & Kate royal wedding a few years ago, or maybe it’s just that we all have a little bit of a princess-wish, but tiaras are slowly making their way back. But you guys, these are not your auntie’s cheap plastic tiaras. These are the real deal – fantasy Disney-esque crowns fit for a bridal queen, heirlooms beautifully made, to be worn with pride. And when it comes to this new generation of crowns and tiaras for real brides, I can’t think of a brand that I love more than Etsy makers Eden Luxe Bridal. This brand has a huge range of gorgeous options, from full crowns to tiaras to headpieces and hairbands, if you’d like to make less of a royal statement. I’m so excited to share some of my favourites with you today! (Links in bold denote affiliate links. The cost to you remains the same, but SBB may receive a commission for any sales made.)

Get the Look: Rustic Chic Bridal Shower

Earlier today we featured a fabulous real rustic bridal shower (be sure not to miss it!). I loved this, not only because it was super pretty, but because it was a fresh take on the rustic/natural/organic look. And we are all about fresh, pretty inspiration here on SBB! So I thought I would break down the look so that you lovelies could recreate it for yourself (or your bestie). The good news is, this is a relatively simple look to pull off, and the more simple and natural you go with the details, the better. Plus, the other joy of rustic style is that there’s really no such thing as mismatched, so you can add in touches of girly or glam or boho or whatever, depending on the style of the bride herself. Perfect, right? (Links in bold denote affiliate links. The cost to you remains the same, but SBB may receive a commission for any sales made.)

20 Rustic Wood Wedding Signs

Wedding Directional Sign with Post by Mulberry Market Design

I remember a few years back when I was helping plan my beautiful friend Heidi’s wedding. She was looking for an elegant rustic/garden vibe for her reception and one of the ideas we came up with was having directional signs, which were handmade and lettered for each table. Of course, directional signs like the one above are now nothing new to weddings, but at the time, it was new. Nowadays we could have saved ourselves all that time and trouble and just headed over to Etsy, where I found a treasure trove for rustic brides and grooms of the most gorgeous signs, calligraphed on wood, for every signage need you could possibly have at your wedding. So of course, I had to round up my faves!
