There’s one wedding cake trend that’s been really waking up the neighbours this year, and that’s geode cakes! Along with all things crystal and mineral, geodes are a HUGE wedding trend right now, and bakers have taken up the challenge, rolled up their sleeves, and enlisted the help of rock candy and gold leaf to produce some fabulous creations that look like they were mined straight from the earth (but are way more delicious, obvs!) So of course, I just HAD to round up my faves!
Heartfelt Country Wedding at Elandskloof by Hewitt Wright Photography
It’s our lucky Friday, with this adorable wedding by Hewitt Wright Photography to share! We’re crushing big time on Lisa and Joe’s country nuptials, not just because they took place at the incredible Elandskloof, with its amazing natural beauty and intimate, relaxed atmosphere, but thanks to all the lovely details like Lisa’s long sleeve Robyn Roberts gown, her mismatched bridesmaids, and the prettiest of outdoor ceremonies. And here’s something else I love – the decor was a surprise for the bride and groom, set up by their nearest and dearest so, while we don’t have reception decor imagery to share, it’s for this wonderful, loving reason. To paraphrase the bride herself, involve your loved ones in your wedding, because the awesome memories are what really last! Hewitt Wright took these lovely, vibrant images.
Marble & Geode Wedding Invitations
*UPDATED FOR 2020* Geodes, minerals and marble – they’re all over the place in wedding world! And there’s no place I love to see these motifs more than in invitations and paperware. Marbled or geode wedding invitations are a great way to add that ‘precious’ touch to your wedding style, whether or not you’re bringing in mineral or marble details in the rest of your wedding, and I especially love the look for either boho or sophisticated city weddings. There are lots of fabulous options on Etsy, many of them printable, so I’ve rounded up 20 of my favourites right here!

Romantic Forest Wedding at Die Woud by Knit Together Photography
Beyond snagging the perfect guy, every bride dreams of finding that one, incredible dress that will make your heart beat faster (and your mom cry, obvs). Well, imagine if the sister of your groom-to-be happened to be a world-famous bridal designer? OMG dream come true, right? That’s what happened to today’s bride, Kim, but her knockout gown is only one reason I’m so excited to share her and sweetheart Jonathan’s wedding with you. It took place at enchanted forest glass marquee venue Die Woud for one (and was every bit as romantic as that implies), and it was created by a procession of local wedding pros we love, including Bright and Beautiful‘s incredible florals, Blooming Wonderful‘s fabulous decor, and tunes by The Wedding DJ’s. Oh, and it has a cake swing and a G&T bar. I mean, does it get any more perfect? Knit Together Photography were on the scene to capture these beautiful images!
Rustic Romance Farm Wedding by Rensche Mari
You know it’s going to be a fabulous day when I get to post a Rensche Mari wedding, and today is such a day! And boy am I in love with Luan & Marné’s wedding! Take your classic farm wedding, add a beautiful twist of rustic beauty and you have this! From the bride’s princess gown to the pastel palette (supplemented with punches of bright blue from the Delft details and toile du jour linens – love!), from the ceremony in the prettiest outdoor chapel to the first dance under a constellation of fairy lights, and everywhere in between, it is pure, dreamy romance. Brought to life in these gorgeous images, as only Rensche can do!
Inspiration Board: White Agate
It’s been a while since I did an inspiration board, but I have to say, I am loving this one! The geode and mineral trend is going strong at the moment, and agate slices make for a super pretty table addition, but instead of the bright purple or blue agate geodes that you see most often, I adore the soft taupe and lavender colours of white agate. Mix them with pale blush, rose quartz pink and a bit of gold, and wow! Romantic and modern – done! Links in bold denote affiliate links. The cost to you remains the same, but SBB may receive a commission for any sales made.

Row 3: Blush bouquet (Fallen Photography/Blu Event Design) | Geode invitation suite (Minted) | Champagne with rock crystal decoration (Shannon Skloss Photography/The Novel Planner)
I’ve featured this invitation suite from Kaydi Bishop on Minted before (here), but I swear I love it even more now! It comes in loads of colours and with foiling option, and this pink shade is absolutely perfect for our inspiration board!
I’m also loving the geode belt and white agate escort/place card slices. You can find both on Etsy!
Plum & Periwinkle Blue Winter Wedding Inspiration
We like to start our Mondays off pretty, and today’s inspiration is definitely that! It has a positively delicious palette for starters – rich plum and berry tones popping against shades of blue that range from periwinkle to denim. Mmmm! With hanging florals and elegant table settings, it’s got all the pretty you need, but with a few moody touches like black candles and a beautiful marble cake (yay for our month of marble and minerals!) which make this look absolutely PERFECT for a winter wedding! And let me not forget to mention the spectacular jewelled wedding gown! So much of wow, and Mila Photography was on the scene to capture every detail!
Pastels & Proteas Wedding Inspiration
Look out! Something pretty is heading your way fast, and I am super stoked to share it! When Aline of Aline Photography hosted a workshop recently, she decided she just had to incorporate the beautiful Pantone colours of 2016, Rose Quartz and Serenity Blue. Yep, these shades may have had their year already, but the industry is definitely not done with them yet – they just lend themselves so well to wedding design! Add in some heartstopping King Proteas, and you have the kind of inspiration that feels homegrown as well as beautiful (my favourite kind) – and that’s before you’ve even seen the other lovely details like a sweet dessert display, rosey stationery, and a stunning lace gown! Let’s get our inspiration on!
Laid-back West Coast Wedding at Die Strandloper by Knit Together
Goodness but this wedding has me LONGING for summer again! Take the classic laid-back, barefoot, West Coast vibe, add in a couple who are just radiant with love, happiness and laughter, all of their favourite people, some adorable DIYs and succulent details, a killer dress, and the cutest flowergirls ever, and you have a wedding that looks like so much fun it almost vibrates with it. Sam and Tracy put all of their relaxed personalities into their big day, choosing a location they loved, making details that fit, and even crafting a ceremony that was 100% them. It’s wonderful, and it’s captured for us to share by Knit Together. Now hurry up, sunshine! I need to get down to the beach again… 😄
Winter Gothic Wedding at Elandskloof by Event Affairs & Natural Light Photography
All I had to say after looking at this gallery was: YASS! Event Affairs, you ladies have done it again, stealing our hearts with this warm and wonderful winter wedding! From the setting (OMG how much do we LOVE Elandskloof?) to the flowers (especially the bride’s wow-worthy bouquet!), to the cozy reception filled with bold blooms and soft candlelight, Carisa and Frank’s wedding was one for the books. I just love a winter wedding done right, and from sherry before the reception to a special coffee station, this one had all those cold comforts covered. Natural Light Photography was there to capture every lovely moment.
