Geometric Wedding DIY Roundup

I say this all the time, but HOW is time going so fast? I could swear I’ve done loads of these DIY roundups this year, but when I looked at the archives, it turned out not so much. Eish. Anyway, I’m excited to bring you this one, because geometrics have become such a key trend in weddings this year. (Psst, look out for tomorrow’s wedding for a gorgeous example.) And of course, it’s not just a trend in weddings, but in fashion and interiors too, which is a bonus because some of the clever DIYs that internet creatives have come up with are absolutely perfect for quirky wedding details. I’ve rounded up fifteen of my faves for you today.

Natural Winter White Wedding at Netherwood by Carmen Roberts {Lauren & Andrew}

If there’s one motif that has quietly been making it’s way into South African weddings recently, it’s cows. Yep, cows. We love ’em, and considering our African roots, maybe that’s not surprising. What’s very cool is that our brides and grooms have shown how a motif like this can be incorporated in a classy way, and never more so than in today’s ‘organic, white and candlelight’ wedding from the lovely Carmen Roberts. Lauren and Andrew were married at the beautifulĀ Netherwood in the Midlands (so the cows were super appropriate to their farm venue) and created a sweet motif that was branded on to the boards at each place setting – cows also popped up in the cake toppers, in signs and table plans, and even in the table names. The rest of the wedding design was classic, white and natural – clouds of baby’s breath and succulents, dapper bow-tied groomsmen and a bride in a beautiful long-sleeve lace dress. It’s everything a winter bride could dream of.Read More

Inspiration Board: Summer Toile

Morning loves! It’s inspiration board Monday, and as promised, I have another board mixing and matching the colours from Pantone’s Spring 2015 palette. Recently I have been loving pinks and blues together, and this is such a fresh way of doing it – a bright blue a few shades up from navy, a sweet rosy pink and another, softer, blue (as well as a few softer shades of pink and lots of white). Pair with a touch of toile and some ripe blueberries, and you have the perfect summer wedding style.

Colours: Pantone Aquamarine, Classic Blue & Strawberry Ice and pastel pink

Top row (l-r): Place setting {Cheryl McEwan/SouthBound Bride}; bride with veil {Erich Mcvey}; bouquet {Jessica Burke Photography}
Row 2: Bridesmaid with bouquet {Luna Photo/Alchemy Fine Events/Krista Jon}; toile envelope liner {Katie Stoops/Pyramid Atlantic}; blueberry garland {Love Life Studios}
Row 3: Blueberry cocktail {Graze}; cake with blueberries {Karenanna Cakes/Anneli Marinovich/b.loved}; bride with flower {This Modern Romance/Gatherings by Stacie}; bridesmaids {Lane Dittoe Photographer}

African Monochrome Styled Shoot by Maxeen Kim

You know, if I hadn’t actually given blood the other day and seen it for myself, I would swear sometimes that glitter flowed through my veins. Show me something sparkly, and I am SOLD. And one of the things I love best is gold glitter against a stark monochrome background. But what do I like even better than all that? A touch of home, of course. Which is why I absolutely adore this styled shoot from the very lovely Maxeen Kim, a South African based in London who not only takes beautiful piccies, but is all about inspiring budget-conscious brides, which makes this shoot not just beautiful but achievable too. Maxeen channeled her love for all things South African into a bridal look and table that has a clean black and white base with a glamorous, blingy sheen – perfect for the modern South African bride. I love the stunning model’s guinea fowl headpiece, the foiled stationery, as well as the sparkly runner, the beaded cattle, and of course, the beautiful chevron cake. This is a look I would love to see in a real wedding one day soon!Read More

25 Yellow Wedding Bouquets

I’ve been hearing lots of rumours in the SA wedding industry that this summer is going to be the summer of yellow weddings, and I for one couldn’t be happier to see this happy shade go mainstream. It reminds me of a friend at university who had a bright yellow dress, and every time she wore it, said she noticed how everyone smiled at her – literally, it’s a colour that makes you smile. Which is the best mood to put your guests in, right? Absolutely. So I’ve pulled together 25 of my absolute favourite yellow bouquets – so much sunshiney goodness! And of course, even if you’re not planning a full on yellow colour scheme, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t have a pop of bright in your bouquet, especially when it looks as gorgeous as these do.Read More

Sunny Paper Flower Wedding at Old Mac Daddy by Dear Heart Photos {Cornelia & Paul}

There’s just something so fairytale-surreal-lovely about oversize paper flowers, and this wedding is full of ’em. Cornelia and Paul’sĀ Old Mac Daddy celebration was a labour of love, quite literally – together with friends and family they created their gorgeous decor from scratch, every petal and every origami fox (yep, foxes – this couple loves them, and they made an absolutely adorable motif woven through the wedding in unexpected places!). With bright pops of yellow, blue and orange – including a peekaboo yellow train on Cornelia’s dress – as well as the sunny Elgin weather, this was a wedding that was full of cheer, and as fun and laid-back as it was original. Lindsay of Dear Heart Photos took these amazing pics!Read More

Gypsy Boho Forest Wedding by Summertown Pictures {Kerry & Jeremy}

Do I ever have a gorgeous wedding for you all today! You know, I’m always fascinated to see how people in the wedding industry choose to design their big day – we all see so many weddings, that it can be difficult to choose just one style. Today’s bride and groom are both KZN industry peeps, and instead of worrying too much about colour or theme, they put together all their favourite things – gorgeous decor from the bride’s personal collection (complemented with copper and brass bottles and candleholders – love the gypsy feel of this!), food from all the many local suppliers who stock their market, and an absolutely magical forest location. The ultimate feel is relaxed and organic, with a real bohemian flare – not least from the bride’s beautiful dress and styling! And the bouquet… oh, the bouquet – an amazing job from planner Carolyn of Adore Weddings. I have spent a lot more time poring over these absolutely breathtaking images from Summertown Pictures than I care to admit – and now it’s your turn!Read More

Cozy Winter Engagement Shoot by Angie Capri

Afternoon, lovelies! As you’ve probably picked up by now, I’m am absolutely dog-besotted, so when photographer Angie Capri sent over this absolutely adorable winter shoot including not just the sweetest couple, Melissa & CJ, but their dog Yukon too, I just couldn’t resist sharing it with you! It’s such a relaxed shoot (in the dreamiest light), that really shows off the personalities of the couple (and their pooch) and instead of being stiff, formal posed pics, are the kind that show them enjoying time together as a little family, and I’m sure are much-treasured! I also love the way that Melissa and CJ chose to have their wedding and e-shoots in two of their favourite locations – nothing like celebrating life’s biggest milestones in places that you absolutely love.Read More

Elegant ShweShwe Mountain Shadows Wedding by welovepictures {Anita & Ulrich}

Today’s bride is really, truly a SouthBound Bride, in so many senses of the word. Anita may not be from SA, but she has a deep bond with our country, and when she and her South African-bord husband tied the knot, they went above and beyond to include dozens of gorgeous South African elements in the mix, including loads of beautiful shweshwe. As a regular reader, Anita found all of her suppliers via SouthBound Bride, and having been in touch with her during the planning process, I loved her enthusiasm for every little detail. It’s worth reading her story and advice below to get a sense of just how much thought went into each aspect – right up to a stargazing lounge so guests could see the Southern Cross, sigh. The day was beautifully captured by the wonderful welovepictures.Read More

Supplier Spotlight: Seven Swans Collection

Four years ago, not long after I started out, I got an email from a brand new, super enthusiastic stationer, the very lovely Anelle of Seven Swans. We immediately clicked, and over the following years she became our first real life bride and the designer of the SBB logo and indentity, while I had the pleasure of regularly featuring her work and watching her business grow. It’s no secret I’m a HUGE fan of the Seven Swans brand, so I was super excited when Anelle told me about a stationery collection they had put together in addition to their continuing work on the bespoke suites I always love to see coming out of the studio. This is the Seven Swans Collection, and it’s already been bringing happy smiles to brides and grooms around the world! The concept is brilliant – a selection of patterned sleeves (customisable by colour scheme) combined deliciously with two kraft paper inserts to make little packages of lovely that are not only beautiful and quirky but budget friendly. I couldn’t wait to show you!Read More
