Portrait of a Marriage: Kristy & Greg

Which of your wedding pictures has remained your favourite?
It’s still the same one I’ve always loved the most- Greg and I running out of the ceremony while our bridal party cover us in confetti! So special and joyful!

What changes have happened since your wedding?
We welcomed our first child, Lucy Grace, last year in March – exactly one year after our wedding, and I am currently 38 weeks pregnant with our second!

Any marriage advice for SBB readers?
Remember to make each other a priority, it’s so easy to get caught up in the “busy-ness” of life after your wedding – be it with your jobs or with starting your family; it’s easy to forget just how much you mean to each other when you have so many other things demanding your time and energy! But trust me… You will be a much happier wife a few years down the line if you really feel like you are a priority for your husband, so make sure he feels the same way from you!

Coral & Mint Groenrivier Wedding by CB Memories Photography {Vanessa & Andre}

I clearly remember the first time that coral and mint entered my colour vocabulary, because not only did I love the cool combo, but every time I used the colours in an inspiration board, I’d get dozens of likes and shares. It’s definitely a happy-making mix, and yet I haven’t seen too many brides and grooms actually using it for their weddings, which allows it to still be fresh and surprising for your guests. Winner winner, chicken dinner. So of course when I came across Vanessa and Andre’s coral and mint wedding, photographed by Chenel of CB Memories Photography, I just had to share it with you all! I loved how V + A used a monochrome background with just soft pops of the statement colours to liven it up, which makes for a very classic but not too formal wintery look.Read More

Rustic Charm Rockhaven Wedding by Natural Light Photography {Joelle & Richard}

Hey lovelies, we’re running a bit late today as Auntie Gabs is under the weather, boo. But I can’t help but be cheered up significantly by today’s beautiful, sunshiney wedding – it’s like a summer afternoon all wrapped up into one pretty rustic package. Joelle is a true SouthBound Bride – not only was she a reader leading up to her beautiful country wedding, but we helped her find her exquisite wedding dress, by the talented Elbeth Gillis (yay, we love Elbeth). So it’s no surprise that I’m crazy in love with Joelle’s style – the soft palette, the little natural details, and of course the dreamiest photographs by SBB fave Maree Louw of Natural Light Photography. All just sooooo beautiful!Read More

Protea Pink Neethlingshof Estate Wedding by Nadine Aucamp {Larize & Jacques}

You KNOW how much we love proteas here on SBB. Just when I think I may have seen enough of them, I buy a bunch and fall in love all over again. They’re like the mafia that way… just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in… ;) And today’s wedding shows you just why – not only do they make for lovely bouquets, they were the colour inspiration for the sweet mint and pink palette. I love the way these shades were brought in at the reception, against a cool backdrop of white on white, with lovely mint wood board runners, iced cookie favours, and even a ruffled pink cake topped with blushing brides (making another appearance in the bride’s hair, love!). Nadine Aucamp has captured the big day beautifully, adding a sprinkle of magic and romance to her images that perfectly reflects the love Larize and Jacques share.Read More

Rustic Romantic Bellwood Wedding by Maurice & Magpie {Natalie & Kelly}

There’s something about a rustic wedding that gets me every time. Maybe it’s the mix of textures, the natural colours and floral elements, or just the simple unpretentious romance of the countryside. Today’s wedding has all of that in droves and thoughtful details galore, from stencilled burlap placemats and chalkboard wine holders on the tables (love the lace, button and print napkin rings too!), to hanging mason jars filled with candles and baby’s breath, right down to a sweet vintage cameo on the bride’s dress. And with a soft rain bringing blessings as well as a dreamy quality to Maurice & Magpie‘s gorgeous photos, the rustic fairytale is complete.Read More

Charming Country Roodezand Wedding by welovepictures {Lee-Ann & Mark}

You could say this wedding had me at hello. Although actually, it was more like, it had me at ‘You & Me Kiddo’ because OMG how adorable is the ceremony signage that Lee-Ann and Mark chose for their charming country fete? This gorgeous wedding (photographed by the insanely talented welovepictures) took place in small-town Western Cape, with just a touch of vintagey French flair. I love the laid back feel of the day, and the way that whimsical elements (paper flowers, yay!) mix seamlessly with soft, romantic elements (how much do I heart those mint bridesmaid dresses?). As I write this, the adventurous couple are on a year-long round the world trip, but they found time (and internet access) amid the jetsetting to send us some of the behind-the-scenes info!Read More

Portrait of a Marriage: Luisa & Ashton

Portrait by Catherine Mac

Which of your wedding pictures has remained your favourite?
My favourite pic is the one of Ash and myself above. I just love the light and the moment that Catherine managed to capture.

What changes have happened since your wedding?
Other than my husband cutting his hair and growing a beard, no real changes have happened in our lives since our marriage two years ago. We have both been working hard in growing our own businesses and aim to travel as much as we can before settling down to start a family. Its really been amazing working towards achieving our goals together.

Any marriage advice for SBB readers?
Remember, it’s the regular and small acts of kindness and affection you show to one another that really help build a loving relationship.

Old West Themed Stone Cellar Wedding by Marinda May Photography {Lana-May & Duke}

You know how everyone has that guilty pleasure movie, that they’ve seen a hundred times but wouldn’t admit to a film buff? For me, that’s Young Guns II. I was pretty much obsessed with it in high school (or was that obsessed with Emilio Estevez, I don’t know?). Even though it’s hardly representative of the Western genre (and let’s be honest, in a cage fight between Clint Eastwood and the Brat Pack, we know who would win), it did give me a love of all things cowboy. Years later, I visited New Mexico and fell head over heels for the scenery, but that’s another story. The fact is, we all love a bit of a high noon, gun-totin’, quick-drawin’, OK corral-showdownin’ Western, even if we’re from the south of Africa rather than the south of America. Today’s couple, Lana-May and Duke (how could you be called Duke and NOT have a cowboy-themed wedding?) pulled on their stetsons and cowboy boots and gave their guests a western wedding to remember, complete with line dancing, moonshine and rustic decor details hotter than a Texas summer. SO FUN. Marinda May was there to capture every fabulous moment.Read More

Natural Rustic Makojalo Op-Stal Wedding by Carolien & Ben Photography {Cristi & Jason}

Get ready for a dose of rustic wedding loveliness that’s sure to set any bride-to-be or lover-of-pretty’s heart a-racing. Cristi and Jason were inspired not by a specific theme or colour, but rather by a love of natural, rustic style and a sense that they wanted their celebration to feel warm and intimate, like a family dinner. Don’t you just love that? They certainly succeeded, with simple, well-chosen details like a gorgeous rustic venue, a touch of burlap and lace, pocketfold napkins, long tables and clouds of dreamy baby’s breath. The mood ranges from cheeky fun (love the bridal party portraits especially!) to pure romance, and SBB faves Carolien & Ben Photography have done an amazing job of capturing all of it. Softie that I am deep down (sshh, don’t tell anyone), my fave has to be the first look – I get goosebumps whenever I see one of these!Read More
