Crepe Cakes & Other Brunch Wedding Dessert Alternatives

Time for some brunch wedding inspiration! One of the ways that I really think you can have fun at a morning wedding is with the food, and especially when it comes to the cake. Fortunately, there are loads of creative (and delicious) options, my favourite being crepe and pancake cakes. Actually, these are a trend on their own (and not just for brunch weddings) – I’m pretty sure crepe cakes are this year’s naked cake. I’m dying to try one – aren’t you? What’s nice about a lot of the ‘cakes’ and desserts featured here is that they can be DIYed by yourself or a friend/family member, which is great for the ol’ wedding budget. Of course there’s nothing stopping you from having a traditional tiered wedding cake, no matter what time of day you’re hosting a wedding, it’s just that these creative alternatives are a whimsical way of referencing your brunch theme, and they’re bound to put a smile on your guests’ faces. Plus, who doesn’t love breakfast food?

Green Garlands

It’s time to showcase a new trend, folks, and I have to say, I have been looking forward to bringing this one your way for a few months now. Of course, wreaths themselves are nothing new in wedding decor (see our archive post on them here) and hair garlands are a huge and lasting trend among stylish, free-spirited brides. But with the move towards greenery like eucalyptus, fern (HUGE right now) and olive branch, the kind of garlands I am talking about are those made of simple twines of greenery or even herbs, hanging simply from a ceiling or against a wall, or worked into something more intricate like a chandelier or fun like an escort card display. Lace Table Runners

It’s funny with wedding trends – one minute they’re brand new, and the next it seems like they never went away. Maybe it’s because everything goes in cycles. But I remember how, just a few years ago, sitting in Hyde Park watching Kate Middleton emerge in her wedding dress, myself and fellow blogger Annie of Marry You Me looked at one another and said: “Lace. Lace is going to be huge again.” And so it has been. But while brides have been getting their lace on in every beautiful combination of portrait back and illusion neckline imaginable since, it’s time for tables to have their turn as well. It’s Wednesday Trendsday, and today we’re looking at a little decor trend that I am absolutely smitten with. I first fell in love with the look earlier this year when we featured Chris and Rich’s gorgeous wedding, with big, round custom-shipped Edison bulbs hanging at intervals along the tables – they were gorgeous touches of stylish retro during the day and at night helped to create an intimate, magical atmosphere. Lovely Long Veils

Get ready for some beautiful inspiration friends, because today we’re talking veils. And not just veils. These are veils and a half: cathedral (or at least chapel) length, full-scale veily gorgeousness. There’s no messing around with these veils. They mean business. But let’s rewind a sec, because while this certainly isn’t a new thing, it’s definitely a trend. Back when I started this blog a few years ago, you couldn’t find a long veil for love nor money. It was all about the birdcage then. And then it was about flowers and braids and floral crowns. But slowly, I started to see these beautiful veils creeping into my peripheral vision. And each time they did, I would do a double take. Veils started making a comeback, especially dramatic full-length ones. Then Kate Moss did it, and it was officially a Thing. And here we are. And I have to tell you ladies, I LOVE this look. I mean, I still like other veil types, but this is hands down my current fave. Whether plain or patterned, cathedral length veils make a style statement, and the good news is (as you’ll see from my roundup of lovely below) that they go with a huge variety of dress types and wedding styles. It’s Wednesday Trendsday, lovelies, and to follow up on the post a few weeks ago with fruit and vegetable bouquets (how much did we LOVE them?), today I’m focusing on ten tables, centrepieces and place settings that look like they came straight from a farmer’s market. This little wedding theme is a fun translation of the growing farm to table movement as well as part of the beautiful botanicals trend, and floral designers and savvy brides around the world have come up with the most beautiful ways of presenting unexpected additions to the table, including edible ones. Putting one of these tables together is a little like arranging a still life for a painter – it’s certainly no haphazard dumping of produce on a table, and neither should it look so organised that it reminds guests of a supermarket veggie aisle.
