We’re continuing our week rounding up the loveliest parts of our real weddings this year, and this afternoon we’re rounding up the most delicious! Wedding cakes used to be simple, classic and white, but nowadays there’s just as much creativity that goes into this aspect as so many other areas of the wedding. There were so many gorgeous creations in our real weddings this year, but here are the ten that made the biggest impression.
Adorable. That’s all I can think when I look at this cake pop cake by Esmari Vosloo – and I LOVE the soft ombre effect too! See the whole wedding here (photography by Moira West).
I’m always amazed by how many of our favourite details come not just from talented suppliers, but from talented friends and family. In this case, the bride Mynderd’s cousin. Love the white chocolate layers and the the frosted fruit! See the whole wedding here (photography by Just Judy Photography).
Now this was a cake! The bride’s best friend, who just so happens to be a celeb chef, made this beautiful five tier chocolate macadamia nut cake, decorated free-hand with brush embroidery to resemble the lace of bride Penny’s dress and handmade pearl-dusted gumpaste flowers. The sheer simplicty of this cake is what makes me like it so much – and I adore the custom paper topper. See the whole wedding here (photography by Cari Photography).
Cheese cakes continued to be a big favourite with our brides this year – this one perfectly suited the farm rustic look at Salomien & Johan’s wedding. See the whole celebration here (photography by As Sweet As Images, cheese from Van Gaalen Kaasmakerij).
Designed to look like bride Monique’s wedding dress, this gorgeous lace creation was finished off with a sparkly brooch. No wonder it was your Pinterest favourite! See the whole wedding here (photography by Jilda G., cake by Mrs. Jones Cakes).
A rainbow cake for a rainbow reception! I love the way that Grethe and Alex’s plain white cake by Dipped Confections hid a secret interior! See the whole colourful wedding here (photography by Bernard Bravenboer).
It didn’t hurt that bride Tessa is besties with one of South Africa’s most talented cake designers – this Roxanne Floquet creation of lace and soft bloom is a delight. See the whole wedding here (photography by Jani B.).
This cake was the perfect touch of whimsy for Tana and Arlo’s wedding – how pretty are the alternating green and white layers and the little daisies? See the whole wedding here (photography by Lauren Kriedemann, cake by Sam and Ankia Müller).
I love me a macaroon, so I particularly loved this macaroon tower at Amie & Christoph’s wedding in their signature shades of coral and mint. Love the succulents around the cake too! See the whole wedding here (photography by Jani B., cake by Daniela’s Deliciously Decadent).
